The region of the winter stars

Last night I saw the stars very clearly. It was actually a little surprising considering where I am and the time of year, but it was amazing.

I have a special affinity for stars. I had a very powerful star-related experience once, which I've told a couple of you about, but it goes back to my childhood when I loved astronomy, especially how it related to myth. I would devour endlessly as many books about Orion and the Zodiac and the planets as I possibly could, and go out at night and make out as many constellations and asterations as possible.

Then, I moved to a more urban area for a while and the stars went away. I'm not in a city any more but this still isn't as rural as where I grew up. Last night's stars were almost childhood-tier for me, and I'm grateful that I saw them.
