Well, I am honestly at a loss. There was no time for a sinking feeling. I retired to bed with a glimmer of hope. I awoke, switched on the telly, and my hopes were dashed. They announced, in so many words, that it was over. Kerry had already called Bush to congradulate him. His concession speech was to take place at 2 pm in Boston. I began to wimper, considering what this meant for our country, what it means for U.S. citizens, and what it means for the world. We are an overwhelming superpower, that wields our power in the most unruly and irresponsible of ways. In the past four years, we have taken an enormous step backwards in terms of civil rights, international relations, and diplomatic efforts. We have invaded several countries, killed over 100,000 people and counting, and called it "collatoral damage". I'm not saying that Saddam wasn't an asshole worth removing. I am saying there are smarter, safer, more responsible ways of doing it. WE have excercised an iron fist, and utilized force instead of sense. We have created more hatred and terror, rather than the converse. We have demonstrated to the world that the way to get what you want is to rape and pillage. I can't say anything more for now. I am wiped out.
