Last night at 7:00 pm my power came back on. It had been out for 6 days. I don't know if the rest of you keep up with this stuff, but the Northwest had a wind storm last week (the only storms the Northwest ever gets) with gusts up to 90 mph. It was intense. When we all woke up on Friday, there wasn't a single business in 20 square miles with power. Six days later, I finally got power back.
However, necessity is the mother of invention, and over the course of the week without power I showered using heated water (from the gas range) mixed with ice cold water, poured from the colander at the top of my spaghetti pot over my head. (You know, like a shower head.) Today I took my first real shower in a week, and it was glorious. Tonight I watched TV and baked cookies.
Justin is actually getting to stay home for Christmas. We had about three scares where he'd be put on trips overlapping Christmas, and then, after he's all packed and ready, we'd get a call releasing him from that trip. As of now, he's still home. At this point, since we have leave on the 28th, it would be really hard to send him anywhere for 6 days.
So the Reynolds are having an uneventful Christmas up here in Seattle. Most of the presents will be exchanged when we get home on the 28th, so it will be pretty tame. Probably a lot of eating and drinking. Here's wishing you all a very Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays this year!
