No list of dodgy Melbourne food stuffs is complete without the Dumpling House on Tattersalls Lane that gets shut down with far more regularity than many a person I know has gotten after eating there. One friend will only eat there after they've reopened from a Health Department shut down because they'll be on their best behavior then.

Do you mn Camy's Shanghai Dumpling? I know most meat-eating friends will not touch the meat there, but I think that's a mix of quality issues as well as concern for safety. Haha.

My reply slipped through the cracks somehow. Yes!

I didn't notice the poor quality of meat. I think I was distracted by the very special "soy sauce".

The really strange thing is that I've eaten at this place a few times without any problems and never knew about its food-safety history (only been living here a few months) O_o

Maybe I was either lucky or I have an iron stomach from eating Asian food from places-of-questionable-food-safety-practices for so long...

That could possibly be why I've been lucky too. I've frequented many Asian venues that look scary as hell but produce brilliant food.

Precisely. A lot of my friends get sick from half the places I eat at, but I'm perfectly fine. I always wonder if it's down to either me being used to eating at places with questionable food safety procedures (you don't know dirty habits til you live in Malaysia haha!), or my friends have sensitive stomachs. I'm voting the latter as some even got sick from eating sushi at just the chain stores.

Oh don't get me wrong. I've been there about 5 times and have come away scott free each time. I'm just sayin'...I'm the only one I know who has.

Same here O_o I'm the only one who seems to "survive" that place every time I eat there. Then again I do only eat their dumplings upstairs.

lol is it more dodgy downstairs?

Haha some of my friends who ate downstairs seem to think so. I think it's because most of the food comes from upstairs so who knows what happens on the way down.

I don't think I've ever gotten food poisoning in the life (touch wood).

Maybe extra care is taken when looking after vegetarian food? Either way I've been blessed by the food gods of Melbourne :P

That probably has something to do with it, but you CAN get food poisoning from fruit and vegetables. I'm guessing it's far less common here than, say, the US, where my home county was responsible for a big e. coli outbreak from spinach. o.O
