Stupid Question Post

I've been having an incredibly difficult time with my housemates and I'm looking to move out in the next few months so that I don't have to put up with their bullshit any longer, and I'm sorry to say, within the few months since they have moved in, I have been completely turned off the idea of having housemates ever again. I currently have a room in a house in Box Hill South that I am paying $160 per week (which comes up to $638 per month). Because of this situation, I am looking to live alone from now onwards whenever I end up moving out of this hellhole.

The question I wanted to ask is, is it at all possible to get a place for myself - as in, no housemates whatsoever - for a price within the same range that I am paying now? I know you guys come from different suburbs, so I'm not going to specify any particular area, but I just want to know if it's realistic to be able to find a place for one (apartment or whatever) for no more than $700 per month. I'm just asking now because I plan to loom at ads in the next couple of months and want to know what I am facing. I have a lot of furniture, as of now, I think I would be able to supply everything except a bed, a fridge and a washing machine in order to live comfortably, but I don't mind buying those as I go along (but I would prefer a bed to have been supplied with the place).

Additionally, would anyone be able to suggest where I should look for ads? I always go to places like realestate.com and stuff, and I can usually find something reasonable, but I always hear stories from friends about people who come across places that are unbelievably cheap (like 300 - 400 per month) and I get jealous. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also, I am a student. I know this would automatically disqualify me from certain places.
