Before you start reading this entry, please...start laughing.
Then stop.
Then answer the pathetic question that I really should know but I don't.

In my defence, can I please say that I haven't travelled on public transport for around...oo...8 years. Yes. 8 years.

So, first day at a new job tomorrow in the city. Need to get off at southern cross ( Read more... )

Let's say, I catch the 7.25am from Glenroy station. Does that mean I'll be at Southern Cross at 8.01 or doesn't it stop there....?

If by some miracle Connex runs on time, and continues to for the entirety of your journey - Yes.

Why are there TWO southern cross listings at the bottom of the timetable? Does this mean that it goes through the loop first or something before stopping?

Because that particular train does that. Looks to me like an Express one.

To be honest, at that time, you should be ok.

Thank god...it's been years since I've travelled on public transport - and starting a new job tomorrow along with negotiating getting there on time is stressing me out. I'll catch an early train to be on the safe side. Thanks for your help.

Up until (and including) the 8:16 at North Melbourne the trains go via flagstaff, melbourne central, parliament and flinders street before going to southern cross. The ones after that go straight from north melbourne to southern cross and then goes to flinders street, travelling in the opposite direction around the city loop.

I hope that makes sense.

I knew this was the case - but dare I ask why? Why during certain times of the day does it go clockwise, then anti-clockwise around the loop? (I'm guessing to service peak hours better? But why not continue clockwise the entire day and sparing the changearound..)

The city loop doesn't reverse direction until noon. That last service probably runs straight to Flinders so it can go to a siding where it stays until the next service it has to run.

Broadmeadows and Upfield services are listed on the same timetable, hence the inclusion of Batman and Moreland.

*waves* you're on my line :-P
Usual announcement is for those wanting Southern Cross to change at Flagstaff and hopefully there won't be too many delays/cancellations - I always try to give myself at least 1 service extra because Connex screws me so much - good news is if you're getting on at Glenroy you should get a seat pretty easy :-P
