Tailors...

Feb 22, 2007 14:43

I'm sick of none of my clothes fitting "just right" and am thinking about going to a tailor to alter my clothing. Does anyone have any experience of this and how much I can probably expect to pay?

Don't be a tard.

Try and put 100 people of the same weight into the same outfit and it'll fit each and every one differently in different spots. People, being they didn't just pop out of a mold, have longer arms, shorter torsos, skinnier legs... etc.

It's not about weight, it's about cut.

Hey 'anonymous', I don't have a weight problem, as the below poster has said its not about weight its about cut.

It depends on what you want altered, and how detailed the work is.

I suggest talking to a couple in the area, getting quotes, and ask to see what they've done.

I know this bloke who's got a tailoring business which is quite cost effective, and very well done. I'm only aware of men's prices, but you'd be paying something like $30 a shirt, or $200 a suit, tailored to your specifications. I'm not sure if he does lady's clothing. Email me if you're interested.

I just got a high-waisted skirt altered because every single one I found was made for straight up and down people and it would seem I have hips (shock!) and that cost me $30, which I thought was okay. They unpicked the entire waistline, took it in, and re-sewed it :)

i used to do tailoring work and i charged by how hard the garment would be to alter.
$20 would probably be the minimum, up to the hundreds for lined suits.
if you're not sure take the garments in to the shop and ask for a quote. if they wont give you one then i wouldn't bother with them. most places have standard costs but dodgy people will add on more if you don't agree to a price beforehand.
like most things the more you pay the better job it will be.
