Palmer resident Emily Mounce, 19, died April 6, 2004, in her dorm at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. May 2 at Wasilla Bible Church, 1701 Lucille St. A memorial service also was held at the St. Lawrence University Chapel for her friends and university staff and faculty members.

Ms. Mounce was born Aug. 10, 1984, at Valley Hospital in Palmer to Robert L. and Mary E. (Wild) Mounce.

She graduated from Palmer High School in 2002. While attending high school, she was an honor student, a member of the high school dance and volleyball teams, captain of the soccer team and poet laureate. She played volleyball as a Presidential Sports Ambassador to the USA Volleyball Team in Italy and served on the Mat-Su Youth Court. She also played Mat-Su hockey, loved to snowboard and was a fitness buff.

At the time of her death, Ms. Mounce was a student at St. Lawrence studying sociology. She was active in many programs on campus and was a member of the University Dance Team. She was proud of her diverse background, including her membership in the Cherokee Nation.

Her family and friends said she had a way of turning heads when she walked into the room. Her beautiful presence, contagious laughter and infinite talent will be missed by all who knew her.

Ms. Mounce was preceded in death by her brother, Robert J. Mounce.

Survivors include her mother, Mary Mounce; and brother, William Mounce, both of Palmer; father, Robert Mounce of Anchorage; aunts and uncles, Barbara Wild and Fred Sorensen of Anchorage, Johanna and Douglas Shorey of Oregon, Michael Wild and Jane Eidler of Sitka, Laura Mounce of Idaho, and Sherry Mounce of North Carolina; godparents, Anita and Scott Mitchell of Wasilla; paternal grandparents, Janice Mounce of California and Robert Mounce of Oklahoma; and cousins, Levia Jones of Bozeman, Mont., Serena and Galen Jones of Anchorage, Logan, Lauren and Lincoln Wild of Sitka, and Paul and Eli Shorey of Boulder, Colo.

Arrangements for cremation were with Lawrence Funeral Home in Canton, N.Y.
