yeah, i was disappointed that cassie died. and actually quite shocked. i figured since there was at least "another season" (as advertised by bbc america) that she would remain a part of the show. i enjoyed the whole love/tension thing btwn cassie and thelma and i think they should have took that a step further.. not necessarily have them sleep together.. but it seemed to be going somewhere (with the headmaster dude wondering if cassie would end up with girls or boys) and that just completely kind of died. or got brushed under the rug (as far as cassie was concerned).
also, what is the deal with the random cute 20's woman/egyptologist? i thought it was weird to have her show up for 2 shows and then disappear without a word or explanation... perhaps she comes back in later season 2?
one other thing i don't like is how they sort of didn't develop any of the characters fully before they started leaving. ie. troy, felix and to a lesser extent cassie. its like they were doing the casting and filming at the same time - and realized they didn't actually want they people they had already hired for the parts.
Yeah, if you look at the IMDB entry for the show, and the entries for the individual episodes, Christina Coles (Cassie) doesn't appear after the episode where Azazeal briefly allowed her to visit with Thelma for a few minutes.
My guess is that they brought in Ella as an attempt to boost ratings - also, possibly, that the show runners changed between S1 and S2 - and that either or both factors caused Christina Coles to want out of her contract. I'd say "Oh, it was possible she was offered a better role" - but if you look at her IMDB listing, it doesn't look like she really had anything huge going on at the time?
(Is it just me, or does Laura Pyper, who plays Ella, look like she's biracially Anglo-Asian? I can't find any info either way. Interestingly enough, though she usually plays upper-class characters, Christina Coles didn't grow up in a wealthy family: her IMDB profile has the info, but iirc her dad is a mechanic and her mom is a call-center manager. Whereas Jemima Hooper, who played Thelma, seems to have grown up relatively privileged.)
As far as the 1920s ghost, I don't know if she reappears, but I don't think she does. She is another character who was totally dropped after S1 when the show was so drastically retooled. Notice that the "witch" angle is more or less also dropped, except with that whole "trial" thing?
AFAIK, the second season begins to focus more on the popular crew at the school. The cliffhanger at the end of the series has to do with Roxanne, the one who was having the affair with the "priest" who was actually a demon. I don't know where the final 9 episodes go as far as Thelma or Ella is concerned.
