Film rec: Julie & Julia

What’s not to love about a movie about food?

Jacques and I watched Julie & Julia last week. (It was my turn to choose.) Neither of us knew who Julia Child was, but he likes a) food and b) Amy Adams, so he was keen.

Is there anything Meryl Streep can’t do? Seriously, she’s fantastic. As much as I like Amy Adams, I could have quite happily just watched Meryl’s half of the movie.

Things I liked:

1. The relationship between Julia and Paul seemed so natural. What a great pair!
2. The scene in which Julia finds out her sister is pregnant, and the way she sobs into Paul’s chest. No words were needed to convey how much she wished that she was the pregnant one.
3. Julia chopping a mountain of onions.
4. The relationship between Julia, Simone and Louisette.
5. Julie’s cat.
6. The lobster scene.
7. Julie’s mother: “Why haven’t you stopped this blogging nonsense?” and then “Why aren’t you blogging?”

Things I didn’t like so much:

1. Julie’s hair.

So, if there’s anyone on my f-list who hasn’t yet scene this film, do yourself a favour and watch it.
