I have wanted to see Fido ever since I first heard of it. Convincing Jacques to rent it whenever we went to the video store never worked, even though we have a policy of “you choose this time, I’ll choose next time”, which we use when we go the cinema too. So even though I could have picked it at any time, I didn’t because we usually choose something both of us will enjoy.
And then, a couple of months ago, Jacques asked if we could watch Blood Sport. He’s been on a nostalgia kick and it was one of his favourite moves as a child. So I suffered through Blood Sport with only a few sarcastic comments and eye-rolling, and at the end promptly announced that the next video we rented would be Fido.
Which brings me to my mini-review: zombie comedy rocks. I thought it was so clever, the dialogue was great, even the choice of the name Timmy (Lassie, anyone?) made me laugh. I loved the characters - Carrie Anne Moss’ housewife whose husband didn’t even notice her pregnancy, poor bullied Timmy, Mrs. Henderson, the creepy neighbour and his zombie girlfriend. And Fido himself, of course.
At the end of the movie I turned to Jacques, excitedly proclaiming, “See? That wasn’t so bad, was it?” only to notice that he was fast asleep.
I guess zombie comedy isn’t for everyone, after all.
