A book meme, from
____chopsticks:
Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?
I'm not fussy. Though paperbacks are easier to pack and take up less of my precious luggage allowance.
Amazon or brick and mortar?
Brick and mortar. I'm old-fashioned when it comes to book-buying.
Barnes & Noble or Borders?
I've never been to a Barnes & Noble, so I can't compare.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random?
In my bedroom in SA, my books are alphabetized by author - and there's hell to pay if one of my brothers dares to borrow a book then leaves it lying around somewhere in the house.
Here in Indo, they're randomly arranged.
Keep, throw away, or sell?
Keep. I am such a pack rat. I still have all my high school set works.
Keep dust jacket or toss it?
Keep it.
Read with dust jacket or remove it?
I leave them on.
Short story or novel?
I prefer novels, but every now and then I'm in the mood for something shorter.
Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Neither.
Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
If it's a book I'm struggling to get through, I'll stop at chapter breaks. If I'm enjoying it, I can usually finish it in one sitting.
"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?
Oh, both.
Buy or borrow?
Buy. And borrow. Seriously, I'm an addict. I'll read just about whatever I can get my hands on.
New or used?
I have no preference. I like knowing I'm the first person to read the book, but I also like old books that have inscriptions in the front.
Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?
Browse. But there are certain people whose recommendations I trust.
Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
I like endings that are somewhat open; they give me room to think about what might happen next.
Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?
What do you mean, I have to choose? I can't read all day?
Stand-alone or series?
I prefer stand-alone, though there are a few series I enjoy.
Favorite series?
Kay Hooper's paranormal investigations series.
Favorite children's book?
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
Favorite YA book?
Hmm. I can't say I have one. I'm not really into YA fiction.
Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
Hmm. Maybe Milan Kundera's The Joke, though I'm pretty sure at least some of you have heard of it.
Favorite books read last year?
Oh. Umm. Doctor Zhivago. And a whole bunch of Milan Kundera. The Year of Living Dangerously. There are more but I can't think of them right now.
Favorite books of all time?
Wuthering Heights. I love the classics, though my current obsession is with the Russian authors. Anything by Milan Kundera. Anything by CS Lewis.
Least favorite book you finished last year?
I am a Cat by Soseki. I struggled to get into it.
What are you reading right now?
The Brothers Karamazov (Dostoevsky). Fathers and Sons (Turgenev). Peran Iman Dalam Ibadah (Al-Utsaimin).
What are you reading next?
Hmm. Lynne just got some new books, so I'll have to raid her bookshelf. :-)
Favorite book to recommend to an eleven-year-old?
Uhh, I don't know. I liked Stephen King when I was that age.
Favorite book to reread?
Wuthering Heights. Anna Karenina. The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
Do you ever smell books?
Umm. Yes. I like the way old books smell.
Do you ever read Primary source documents?
Huh? No.
