Multifandom drabble

In an effort to lure back my muse, I'm taking drabble requests.

So, give me two characters from two different fandoms, and I'll give you a drabble. :)

Ooooooh. Horatio Caine (CSI:Miami) and L.J Gibbs (NCIS)...

Gibbs slid onto the stool and ordered a bourbon from the bartender. A waste of a day, he thought. He could have been working on any one of their open cases, but instead he was stuck in Atlanta for a criminal behaviour conference.

Kate would have enjoyed this.

The thought came unbidden, and he took a sip of his drink as if that could wash the pain away.

"Scotch," a man said, taking the seat beside Gibbs. He glanced at the man, and it was a few seconds before he could place him. Horatio Caine, from Miami. Also attending the conference.

Also looking like he had better places to be.

He noticed the flash of gold on Caine's finger, and hid his smile.

(He thought of Kate again, and understood that there would never be enough alcohol to forget.)

Jack Bristow and Dana Scully (X-Files)

Compared to some of their other cases, the current one was hardly extraordinary. A doomsday prophecy, a government conspiracy - nothing Scully hadn't seen before. Besides, she thought as she stared at the yellowed parchment, Nostradamus had been wrong about the end of the world. Why should Rambaldi be right? There was no way the woman in this picture existed.

Mulder had gone after a lead one of the Gunmen had given him, on a case that was supposed to be closed, leaving Scully to deal with this Rambaldi matter on her own.

There was a knock on the door.

"Agent Scully?" The man was tall, grey, and had a face like stone. He was also pointing a gun at her chest.

He fired, and Scully was somewhat relieved to realize it was a tranquilizer dart, not a bullet.

When she woke up, the manuscript was gone.

You're welcome!

Yep, poor Scully. But she's lucky it was Jack. Irina would've used a real bullet.

Since you know my love for teh crazy, naturally I'm going with:

Rachel Burke (Profiler) and Arvin Sloane (Alias). :)

Hope your muse is coming back quickly. (I looked but it's not hiding under MY bed.)

Rachel sipped her coffee, glancing around the restaurant. The VCTF was in the process of being shut down, yet Rachel was reluctant to return to Quantico, so Arvin Sloane's phone call had come as a welcome surprise.

"Good afternoon, Rachel."

She glanced at her watch; he was right on time. "Good afternoon."

"I've heard good things about you." He smiled, taking a seat opposite her. "I could definitely use someone with your skills in my division."

Rachel accepted the folder he was offering her, and skimmed through the contents. When she looked up, she was smiling.

"Tell me more about SD-6, Mr. Sloane."

OMG NOOO! RACHEL! IT'S NOT THE CIA!!

I had several of those moments when I read the 'before she was a butt-kicking-spy' Sydney Bristow books.

But this is very well done. :) I don't know why I expected these pairings to be romantic, though... *hides face*

Abby (NCIS) and Jarod (The Pretender)...

Jarod's current Pretend had him as an NCIS officer from San Diego whose transfer papers were lost in a backlog of information. by the time Gibbs' team realized he wasn't who he said he was, the case would be solved and he would be gone.

Right now he was sitting in the lab with Abby, debating about the best way to hack into classified government files.

Abby leaned back in her chair, then turned to look at him. "No way! How'd you know that would work?"

"Lucky guess." He shrugged.

Abby grinned. "You're cool, J." She handed him the cup she'd been drinking from. "Try some of this."

"What is it?"

"Caff-Pow."

Later that night, he would regret trying the drink. Caff-Pow did not help his insomnia one bit.

"She won't talk to you."

Sam looked away from the security monitors, and studied the man standing next to her. She was on loan to the CIA, tasked with creating a profile for a woman they had in custody, and everyone had been welcoming - except the agent beside her. Of course his name was Jack, she thought. Life was not without its sense of irony.

"What makes you so sure of that?" Sam asked.

Pain flashed across his face, and Sam had one of her moments of insight: a woman's laughter, a child on a merry-go-round, a couple spinning as they danced-

Jack Bristow walked away, and Sam turned back to the security monitors.

In her cell, Irina Derevko sat cross-legged on her bed, a book open in her lap.

And Sam wondered.
