July and August Reads

  • The Lyre of orpheus by Robertson Davies, one of my favorites reads this year. almost made me feel like reading Hoffman again.
  • Happiness TM by Will Fergusson -Hilarious- a parody about self help books
  • Ruth by Elizabeth Gaskell- only managed to read half and decided to put it aside for later; couldn't care much about the heroin.
  • Beautiful Lies by Lisa Unger- took me a while to get into it but then I couldn't put it down. Sometimes the heroin seemed a bit too daft, but then she herself, as the narrator, would admit to it.
  • Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides- one of my best reads this year
  • 24 hours in the life of a woman- Stefan Zweig- ah, well...it was ok, but the movie Letter from an Unknown Woman had made me expect much more from Zweig
  • Double Double by Ellery Queen- readable but not at all my cup of tea.too much of the corpse in the library kind of mistery
  • O Mensageiro e outras histórias com Anjos ( the messenger and other stories with angels) by Teolinda Gersão- nice stories with angels; a nice version of the story of jesus.
  • The Five People you meet in Heaven- by Mitch Albom- nice, but couldn't figure out what the hype was all about. I did cry a bit, I confess.
