a wedding, a funeral, a boy

last weekend i went to rebecca and gary's wedding which was beautiful. it reminds me of how much i want to be in love and have a pretty diamond ring and a pretty dress and a pretty ceremony one day. yes, all that stereotypical stuff. what can i say?

i got back to gainesville late Monday night. Tuesday morning mom called me to tell me clyde died the night before. while it was expected, i guess i kept hoping that he'd make it a little while longer. later Tuesday i drove back to quincy, the viewing was on Wednesday night, the funeral on Thursday morning. it was strange to be back in greensboro. to see all anne's friends who i got to know years ago. i stayed at the viewing the whole time. i just couldn't bear to leave evie. when i got there she was sitting in an armchair by the door, all by herself, greeting people who came in, so i sat with her and hope she liked the company. i went with her to the casket and she straightened out his hair and showed me the father's day card she made him (he was awake a little bit early that Sunday morning and got to see evie) and made sure to tuck a picture of herself and her father into his hands. it was so sad to see her saying goodbye to her daddy.

the funeral was at providence baptist church, graveside only. i hated the preachers and the insincere, distant nature of their speeches. anne gave a eulogy though, and it was perfect. it was all that needed to be said. she's an amazing woman and she's helped me so much in the past. i hated to see her standing at the podium fighting with her shaking voice, but what she said was beautiful.

while i was in quincy for the viewing and funeral, i stayed with chancy, as i always do. it was so nice to see him and fall asleep with him. i've missed him lately. he took me to batman begins and then for a drive around quincy in his new car. being with him makes me feel strangely content.

but i'm back in gainesville now, back to working, and back in classes tomorrow. and i think i'm more worn out than i started this week of summer break. and i'm definitely just as behind in my classes.
