“Ahhht-chooo!”

“Gesundheit,” came a voice from the other room, “I thought you said you kicked that cold already?”

“And I really thought I did, it was so stubborn... fucking cold, maybe this was just a sneeze,” Lucy echoed back while making after-dinner coffee for the both of them.  “I felt it coming on just prior to the Musical AllStars performance and I tried to will it away with a little bit of herbal tea.  It held but I think I croaked it a little bit at the beginning of ‘Be Mine’.”

“Ahhhh, yes, I heard that on one of the YouTube videos.  I thought it was kind of sexy,” giggled Kasia as Lucy nudged her from behind with her elbow while handing her a mug.

“I hope others thought that as well or better yet, not notice that at all,” she rolled her eyes and took a seat next to Kasia on the sofa.  “What are you doing, staring so intently at the screen?”  Lucy watched her, not bothering to even sneak a peak at the computer perched on Kasia’s lap.

“Oh... no, Kasia, stop.  You said you weren’t going to read that fandom junk about us,” Lucy pleaded.

“Aw c’mon, Lucy, be a sport.  These are our fans - short for ‘fanatics’ - and most of them are really well-intentioned people, I’m sure.  Have a sense of humor.  They’re crazy, just keep that in mind.”

“’Most of them’ you say?  I’m thinking maybe half but the other half probably want a piece of us.”

“Lucy,” Kasia redirected her gaze right into those magnetic blues and continued, “I know it’s that nasty cold talking.  Believe me, no one is going to get a piece of us.  They’re supporting us... they’re our fans.  Now lighten up, cheer up, and come closer and look at some of this stuff with me, it’s fun!”

Lucy begrudgingly rearranged herself on the sofa so that she could comfortably watch the screen as Kasia surfed the web.

“Look,” Kasia said excitedly, “They’ve organized their voting for us for the German Soap Awards on mypromi.de!  Vote for you for Best Actress, me for Viewer’s Choice Actress, and you and me for Most Romantic Couple!”  Kasia burst into an infectious laugh and Lucy couldn’t help but join in.  “It’ll be a shoo-in and if not 1st place, I’m pretty sure we’ll place in the top 3.  Look how strong this fandom is!   Hand aufs Herz has been off the air for a year now and the Jemma fans are still supporting us in our continuing endeavors even if we’re not Jemma anymore...”  Her voice trailed off slightly.

“Yes, I get it,” Lucy said as she watched Kasia navigate to yet another screen.

“Lucy, this forum, they’re saying that if we win ‘Most Romantic Couple’ they want us to snog!”

“And wouldn’t that be appropriate?”  Lucy gave Kasia a sly smile.  They sat staring at each other for what felt like an eternity until Kasia finally gave in with, “It would.”

“Great, it’s settled then, we’ll snog in public at the German Soap Awards in the name of Jemma!”

“In the name of Jemma!” repeated Kasia as they hoisted their mugs and gave a respectful toast to themselves.

“You know I almost kissed you on the lips during last year’s Soap Awards when I jumped up when they called my name for that award but you moved your head to the side and all I could do was hug you,” Lucy pouted into Kasia’s shoulder.

“Yup, I know... and I did that on purpose, you came at me so fast!  We hadn’t really told anyone back then.”

“Then you wouldn’t let go of me, I had to break our hug and point you to the stage.”  Kasia continued to surf the web in silence with Lucy leaning on her, sipping coffee, obviously a million miles away.

Lucy couldn’t organize the thoughts in her head at the moment.  Things seemed to be coherent then incoherent then coherent again, as if going in and out of dreamland.  So she pinched herself.  “Ouch!”

Kasia flashed her a look then asked, “Something bugging you?”

“Yeah - do the fans know or not know about us?”  Lucy asked.  “You look at all of this stuff and take it in stride, it’s so easy for you since you’re kind of out of the public eye right now.  They show up at my appearances, gathered at the backstage door and are all so gracious, showering me with gifts, compliments, well-wishes.  They ask questions about you, if I see you, if we still keep in touch and I wonder ‘do they or don’t they know about us?’”

Kasia jokingly said, “Hey, being out of the public eye was not exactly a choice I made but they’ll know for sure if you snog me when we show up at the Soap Awards!” and let out a hearty laugh.  “But seriously...”

Kasia looked out over her laptop screen, staring straight ahead in thought.  After a moment, she thoughtfully said, “I don’t honestly know... I think maybe the German fans might know since that little speculative article about us came out awhile back in that entertainment weekly but not so much for the international fans.”

Quiet.

“There seems to be a contingency that says you’re straight as an arrow and you have a boyfriend and that I’m gay as a window even though I said I’m not lesbian in a 10-question blog post on my blog,” she continued.

“Maybe we shouldn’t, or rather you shouldn’t think so much about it?  Just let things be as they are?”

“Mhm,” Lucy said then sighed.

“Lucy, people will always have their perceptions and there’s nothing we can do about it.  So what’s really bugging you about this?”

“I want to be myself out in public when I’m with you.  When. I’m. With. You.”  Lucy poked at Kasia’s shoulder to emphasize her words.

“And you’re not?”

“I’m cautious and ambiguous and I hide behind Jemma but it’s been a year since Hand aufs Herz was cancelled and I’m still with you and glad to be but want to be okay with that all the time and not have to think about it.”

Kasia chuckled quietly.

“What’s so funny?” Lucy asked, elbowing her in her side.

“I didn’t realize you were so sensitive to what other people thought and I’m thinking about whether you’d be okay with you and me going to the Soap Awards together, rather than arriving separately and staging our ‘reunion’!”

“Uuuugggghhhh!”  Lucy groaned, “Okay, okay, we’ll just do this like any other couple would do it, okay.  You call it, I’ll follow.”

“Mhm,” nodded Kasia, “Want to read some Jemma fanfic or this RPF stuff, then?”

“Oh, dammit Kasia!  NO!” Lucy said loudly and suddenly sat up.  “That creeps me out to no end.  Am I going to have to start writing fanfic myself to keep your attention?  Now put that away and let’s practice our winning snog instead!”

“Hmm that sounds like a good idea since I’ve been watching you on ‘Sturm die Liebe’ with your sterile boy-kisses…”

“Don’t roll your eyes at me - it’s bad enough that I’m the one who has to do the kissing.  Those guys aren’t gentle, not like you.  I’m just trying to keep myself from getting hurt.”

“But Lucy, it looks so unconvincing, kind of like my boy-kisses in Anna und die Liebe,” Kasia said, making herself laugh.

She wrinkled her nose, “Do you think anyone notices?  I only found items in the fan forums about my ‘red ears’ but haven’t really seen anything regarding my on-screen kissing anyone else besides you.  Haven’t seen anything about your on-screen kissing either… then again, I haven’t really been keeping up.”

“I’m so happy to hear you haven’t been keeping up with that fan stuff.  I wouldn’t want it to be consuming your days when I’m not here to police your Internet usage!”  Lucy leaned back on the sofa, “So shall we practice?”

Kasia slammed the laptop shut and grinned girlishly at Lucy, “Why not?”
