Melanie was not happy.

In fact, Melanie was very unhappy. Because that morning, Melanie had woken up with a head cold. A very bad head cold. The kind that starts with a stuffy nose and doesn't stop until you feel as if your head is threatening to explode and something is attempting to rip its way out of your throat. And the fact that it really ( Read more... )

Miles had a small side bag (a gift from his older sister at Christmas) hanging off his shoulder when he entered the common room. A quick glance around made him notive the girl sitting by herself, and looked comfortable at the moment as well though a bit irritated.

"You missed dinner," he stated, pulling a pastry out of the sac and held it out to her.

Melanie tore her eyes away from the stunning pair of heels she had been examining, her gaze quickly moving from Miles, to the pastry, then back to Miles.

"No thanks," she muttered with a slight shake of her head, pathetically attempting to keep her words as undistorted as possible.

"Alright then," he said with a shrug, taking a bite from the thing before shoving it back in the back. After a quick second he pulled out a piece of fruit and held it towards her again.

Melanie raised an eyebrow at the offered fruit, looking up at Miles questioningly. "Do you keep a whole bloody kitchen in there?"

"No," he said easily, glancing back into his bag. "But I've certainly enough for a small meal."

"Well I don't want anything," she replied, looking back to her magazine and sinking further down into the chair.

He gave himself the liberty of having a seat next to her before pulling a small table closer and laying out a bit of food for himself. Miles had only stepped into the Great Hall to take food with him - he hated spending more than a few minutes inside the crowded dining area.

"Don't even want to humor me by having a bite to eat?"

"No," she answered firmly, taking her eyes off her magazine again to throw him a warning glare. She was sick, she didn't feel good, and him getting on her case certainly wasn't going to help.

"Want to humor me and at least explain why you don't just glance at me, but glare?"

"Do I really look as if I'm in the mood to humor anyone right now?" she asked with another pointed glare.

"No," he shrugged with a bit of food in his mouth. "However, this is me you're talking to - or avoiding talking to really - and you should know by now that I'm not exactly about to grin and bear it without you saying a thing."

Melanie looked at him for a moment, almost as if considering what he had said.

"Point taken," she said finally, putting her magazine down with a quick sniffle.

"A Miss Rhye sniffle is never a good sign (for sickness or other) - so tell me what's wrong."

"Start calling me by my name and I just might," she replied, raising an eyebrow at him.

"Miss Rhye is your name."

Not bothering to counter his claim, she simply went back to her magazine, purposely holding it up so that it partially hid Miles from view.
