As the older sister to two younger brothers, both alcoholics, I've been there & done that. Good luck to you... One of my brother's is a bum on the streets right now, never amounted to anything anyway and his brain is gone, but the rest of his body is fine. He can't even kill himself, and he's tried several times recently. I think he's like Jason in the Halloween movies.... he just keeps coming back to haunt you.

The youngest brother, lost his house, his job, his wife, & most of his pancreas, and is a type II diabetic because of it all. But he's doing well as a recovering alcoholic, now. His two boys actually liked him better than their compulsive cleaning housewife mother, so he got the young adult boys and his job back. And I'm happy to say for the first time in my life I like him, he was always an uppity arrogant bastard before. He just moved half a mile away from me and out of my Mom's place and he's paying her back for all she did to take care of him during his struggles. So at least for now, as long as the doctors can keep him physically back together, life is good. Addictions are nasty, and affect the entire family. This has been hell for everyone.

... and when mental illness compounds addiction, it's like they feed off each other.

This has not been a pleasant experience, for anybody involved.

Sorry to hear about *your* ordeal. :)
