- Karkat stepped back. His eyes flickered up-John’s breath stuck-then Karkat looked away.
“That,” John said. His voice scraped. “That was kind of weird. I mean, ha ha, you got me!”
“Fuck,” Karkat said. ”Shit. This was a mistake.”
He took another step back, away.
“Karkat-”
“Shut up, I’m fucking-brain-damaged, an idiot, I should’ve-”
“Wait-”
Karkat turned, his hand at his mouth. Head bowed. John’s heart skittered, caught on his ribs.
He thought-
John caught his sleeve.
“What?” Karkat snarled, teeth flashing, eyes red. “I’m fucking sorry, all right?”
“Shut up, numbnuts,” John said, and he kissed him.
