Character design evolution: Iggy

Haven't drawn in a while. Trying to rectify that.

Anyway, while going through my computer I discovered an old character design from last year that was drawn for Iggy, a Fey from the book that I am forever working on. I remember that back then I was trying to work out what Iggy looked like in my head. The best way for me to do that is to simply draw him. Looking back at, I can see why I never posted it. The drawing never quite fit what I had in mind with a 300+ years old English mythological being. So, I redesigned Iggy in how he looks in my head now.

The problem I have with this is that in the book, Iggy in his Fey form is supposed to look like a beautiful, elegant and very importantly, androgynous youth which is supposed to contradict with what he looks like when he is in Vegas. In Vegas, he's burly, masculine, adult and thickly muscled. Basically, he is like a truck driver. Well, except in woman's clothing. But Iggy being a cross dresser is something all together different.

In this drawing, I didn't feel like he appeared anything that I had planned for him. The hair was messy. The nose was too bulbous. There was nothing androgynous about him. I didn't even like his skin color.

So, like I said. I redid the design. Which ended up as this;

Now this is an improvement, I believe. Or at least I hope. Iggy the Fey, is now less Middle Ages and more regal. His hair does not remind me of straw any more. His features are softer and more feminine. And I prefer the asymmetrical jewelery. As if he shoved as much gems and gold onto his head as he could.

Of course, a year from now I'll probably have a new version of him to show. But for now, this works.

I don't think I am going to rework Doon because how he is now is exactly how he is in my head. Same with Marcus. But I realized that I haven't drawn any of the girls. I guess they are up next since it is overdue.
