Jason, aka Swag aka Spider, was one of the first people that I met when I moved to Fayetteville. Albeit a very misunderstood meeting, but a lasting one. He jumped in my face to defend his, at the time fiancee, after the incident was cleared up, we all sat down and chilled. He and Alanna are/were the perfect couple. A relationship that withstood many ups and downs, survived the gossipy rumor mill and the army's bullshit. There were times that we would just sit at the Coffee Scene and bullshit about random inane things, there were barfights over broken windshields and there were joyful celebrations of the 4th of July by the pool. Watching him light sparklers for the kids and knowing that some day he and Alanna would make great parents.
There are soldiers that die everyday, but you never know the reality of war until it's someone you are close to. Swag was an honest man to the point of being brutal with the truth. It was something that you grew to love about him. At the same time, he was a caring man and had a wonderful sense of humor. These feeble words can't even begin to convey how much he will be missed. Alanna, my heart goes out to you. Be strong for you, and stand for Jason. He's a fallen hero indeed.
