Something to keep separate is the Old Testament God from the New Testament God. They are very different. Also, I know this is hard, but don't confuse the message and the messenger. In religion, the messenger would be the religious leaders or its people in general. But usually the message is good, it just gets changed as people get involved.
As for missionary work, Jesus denies it (at least according to my interpretation) in Mark 9:38-40. But the people (in this passage, the people are the disciples) want everyone to follow the same faith.
In my opinion, religion isn't bad until the people get involved, and sometimes even the people make it good. The community people find in their organized religion gives them comfort, but when it turns into a fight for conversion or who is right, that is where religion gets a bad name.
A friend told me that his wish for the world was to make Christianity more like Jesus intended it to be. Or as Gandhi said, "I like your Christ, I don't like your Christians."
I just think you are confusing many things in your current declaration that shouldn't be confused, but it all makes sense and I agree with almost all of it (although I'm not sure there is a God for those who do not believe, but I'm not attached to that). Could the presence you feel be life itself? And that life could be called God, yes. Or, in music, perhaps the love you have for that music could be what you feel. Again, you could give that the name of God.
You ask a phenomenal question that is never easily answered, and you will probably find more questions than answers as you look deeper into what you are currently asking, which is not a bad thing. Good luck with your search, I hope you find what you are looking for. But "it'll probably happen when you're not looking for it. Just keep your eyes open" (Chronicles of Narnia).
