*RANT*

Background: After this semester (which ends in April) I only have one English class that I need to take for my major. Then I have about 4 other electives I need. Now the Advanced Expository Writing class I enrolled in would have fulfilled the English requirement, and I registered for it nearly two weeks ago. I got a phone call this afternoon telling me that the class has been cancelled. There were no other sections of the class available, and now I have to make other arrangements.

Problem: My university's English department offers degrees in five categories, and students have to specialize in one or another of the following: Author Studies, Genre Studies, Language and Writing, Historical Approaches, and Theoretical Approaches. Classes have always been offered in all five categories, but until a year and a half ago, specializing in Theory was not an option at all (but it would have been my first preference), and because I started in 2000, I can't take that as my degree, even though I only need one more theory class. I chose to specialise in Language and Writing, which I thought was a good fit for what I hope to do after I complete my degree. Now, in the past six years I've watched the class offerings each year (although I've only been watching English for the past 4 years). Group 3 classes, or those in Language and Writing, are offered very sporadically. I'd already given up on Creative Writing I because I couldn't meet the 25 page sample submission on short notice, and that is the only other Group 3 class being offered. And I still can't meet the 25 pages on short notice.

What I like is that the uni cancelled the class less than two weeks into registration, and there are still 5 months in which students can register for Fall classes!

So now I'm not sure what to do. I have to make an advising appointment anyways, because I need to do a grad check, and suchlike. Maybe it's not too late to change my specialization...

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

(and now to top it off, my laptop's mouse has gone buggy, and is hiding in the screen corners!)

registration, school, mad as hell
