Scarcity
Confirmed something yesterday that I had previously suspected. Job2 used to be on a list of off-route stops that a person could request when taking Bus Route 3. I say, "used to be," because Job2 was taken off that list less than a year ago, and no one I know uses the new schedules.
Now, Job2 is off of Broad St, one of the more major arteries, by a fair bit. By car, the winding access road is nice and kind of short, by taxi, it hikes fares by almost $3, and on foot, if one follows the road, it can take nearly twenty minutes of walking. If walking in from Broad St, one can start cutting across the park near the public restroom hut. Running through the snowbanks (if you walk you'll lose momentum and get stuck!), the walk to Job2 from the main street can take about 7 minutes plus 3 minutes of recovery time.
I've also noticed something rather frustrating recently. Whenever I push the button for the walk light at an intersection, the green light in that direction does not last nearly as long as it does when no one pushes the walk! And, if pedestrians don't press for the walk light to cross at such intersections then they lose their right of way (not that most drivers here pay attention to the rules of right of way anyway). That, along with so many busy streets having sidewalk on only one side, makes being a pedestrian unappealing, frustrating, and eventually leads to more danger for pedestrians. (Apparently, someone is doing a study of pedestrian conditions in Canadian cities, or something. Saskatoon has already had the study done, but the group hasn't come to Regina yet.)
Anyways, I initially intended to just post my schedule for the rest of the month, in case anyone wonders where I am or what I'm up to. I don't think I'll be posting too much some days.
