Two posts in as many weeks. Compy may go into meltdown.
Yesterday I went into St Albans and met Rose, and did lots of shopping for birthday presents, which gives me a very virtuous feeling, because unless there's someone I've forgotten I have now given out all my birthday presents at least for the rest of the summer, and hopefully I can actually save some money and stop it with the spending it all on shiny, and my goodness this is turning into a long sentence. I got Helen a big black scrunchie with lots of tiny white skulls on, and considered tights with skulls as well, but thought that might be a little morbid, so went with a black and white photo of Paris, to add to her new collection of cool-things-to-stick-up-on-her-walls, which was started on the Sheerwater trip. Now I think about it, I still owe her that Orlando Bloom poster beside me. Sexy as he undeniably is in it, I want the space for some more bookshelves, which take priority over everything in my room except the bed and the teddies. Yes, even over the computer. Anyway, this is sidetracking.
After shopping in St Albans, we went back to Rose's house and wrapped her present for Lucia - a combined effort because of Rose's invalid status, which, given that I am naturally very bad at wrapping presents and Rose could only use her left hand, probably made them very difficult to open. There was also a very amusing conversation with her brother after he made a comment when we came in.
Rose: Sorry, were you talking to me?
Mark (sarcastically): No, to your sidekick. (looks up)
Me: Hi.
Him: ...I thought you were alone!
And then her mother very kindly gave us a lift to waitrose, and I only took one wrong turning in the slightly roundabout route we took from there to Lucia's house, which is really very difficult to identify. However, we got there in the end, partly because her mother recognised us from the kitchen and told Lucia to let us in, and I got glomped by Gregory and all_my_words (as distinct from other-other Helen :P), and it was generally fun. We did some very peculiar things with Scotch eggs, until they feel apart and were replaced by apples, (and yes, Anto, I did phrase it like that just to make your brain fwizzle) and sent the boys off to get more booze (with instructions to Matt to get "something LIGHT"), and about half of us spent a very large part of the evening in harry Potter Fandom World, which was interesting (to us, at least) and brought up possibilities which I had previously never considered. Anto, isn't it possible that the Potters were in hiding before the performance of the Fidelius Charm - done as a last resort when Dumbledore felt they were being actively targeted by Voldemort - and that is when the letter about James being restless dates from?
Also, I got to see Lucia dancing in a swishy dress, which is always got, and spent time around Amy and around Rose, neither of which happens nearly enough, and got lifted up by Matt. We had a session of passing around Lucia - since she forbad us from doing birthday bumps - around the boys and Helen, and generally had a lovely time, except for the fact that Carrie was not there, of course.
And today I slept in a lot, which was nice, and woke up, drank smoothie, got dressed, watched Neighbours and the news, and then had Katy make me pancakes, (One with red leicester melted on top, two with sugar and lemon, and one very small and funny-shaped one (the last ones are always the most fun) with grated plain chocolate melted on top - envy me) and we had the interesting conversation with Anto (and, distantly and very confusingly, with Amy) and we played Scrabble - photos of the insane board on Facebook. It began as "EX" with "HAT" directly on top - always a good start. Anto, that's how you do it.
And then I went back on my compy, and then I played the viola (so ha, mother dearest) and then I listened to the last bit of the Now Show, which was fun. Conversation during dinner managed to spark the line,
""What are you doing with that fishing rod in the oven?"
"Waiting for my carbonara to bite!""
- which I am quite proud of having said as a completely logical progression of a conversation.
And now I have stayed up far too late for no apparent reason except that my parents think I should go to bed at the same time they do, which is really unhealthy for a teenager on holiday. I don't feel particularly sleepy, but I can feel that all brain functions apart from those I am absolutely concentrating on have been completely shut down - so I shall actually spell check this entry. Also, Sheroes may be interested to note that my computer chair has made my butt go numb.
And so, so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, adieu, - etc.
...and someone should really give the dictionary ENGLISH options for a word like "recognise" - NOT "recognize", which is a purely American spelling.
