Some strange things about Belgium
- everything is closed on Sundays, including most drug stores
- it is impossible to find slips and shoe polish in the stores (I sound so old-fashioned...)
- the street signs are posted on the sides of buildings, about two stories up. This makes it so that if you're driving, you might only see the sign in the middle of the intersection
- it is common to have two left turn lanes lead into a one-lane road
- people with convertibles drive with the roof down and the windows up
- middle-aged women wear fishnets to work
- the sky is still light at ten at night
- there is a flock of wild parakeets that lives in the back yard
- occasional restaurants will add a charge to your bill if you use their bathroom
- Belgians will let their dogs shit on the sidewalk and then complain about the smell in the neighborhood
- police shrug off baggage thefts at train and stations
Watched last Friday's episode of Battlestar Galactica. Nearly cried.
Also learned to shine my shoes. Should have done it earlier since the leather has scratches in it. But I'm still unnecessarily proud of myself.
At some time, I need to go back into the city and get a better plate of mussels than I had the last time.
