hobtheknife frequently reminds me that the opinions of those of us fandom do not mirror the opinions held by mainstream Americans.
There's a hell of a lot of hate on the internet, as an African-American Christian lady told me recently. The reason for the hate is because the web is largely anonymous. If you were to get those people in, say, a classroom or auditorium and ask them in front of a lot of other people how they feel about gays or Jews or whoever, they probably wouldn't have the courage to speak their pathetic minds.
They call America God's Enemy and congregate to celebrate the deaths of our soldiers. Sounds like treason to me. Speaking of which, I'm glad they arrested those militia nuts in our states recently. It will hopefully send a message to the rest of that sort that the government will tolerate only so much.
Isn't Jesus the messenger and not the Father, which is actually god? I'm pretty sure there's a difference between the Holy Trinity, God, and Jesus. Allow the Heathen to instruct thee: the Trinity is the great Christian Mystery. The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three manifestations of the same God, each Person separate and distinct but co-equal in power.
But if reminded, I thought the Jews were supposed to kill Jesus so they could be absolved of their sins, and so that everyone in purgatory and hell could also be brought to heaven. Jesus' death was supposedly part of the Divine Plan of Salvation, but humans have Free Will. The Jews were persecuted for centuries because of their alleged crime. I recall the Romans actually carried out the execution, but since they were the dominant world power at the time ane eventually became Christian, their part of the blame goes largely unmentioned.
Having researched the matter myself, I do not personally believe that the Jesus of the Gospels was a historic person. There's too many places in the documents of the time where one would think he would've been mentioned but the silence is eloquent.

Interestingly enough, I think some of the right-wing Christians are afraid of diversity because their numbers in this country are dwindling.
