My mom called last night to tell me that a cancer was found in my grandmother's breast. This is not entirely unexpected, seeing that her sister had to have a mastectomy not too long ago.
But what my grandmother has is called "ductal carcinoma in situ," and is the most common kind of NONinvasive breast cancer. It hasn't spread, and can be removed in its entirety via an in-office procedure.
So, if she has to have breast cancer, this is the kind to get! Kind of like my dad -- if he had to get cancer, at least it was prostate cancer, one of the easiest to detect and easiest to treat with a full recovery.
Still...that makes two cancer scares in my immediate family since February. I'm not liking this trend at all!
