Things!!
01. Music!
Songs I have been loving recently, because everyone likes music recs, right? Right?
Jack's Mannequin - People and ThingsI love their first two albums. I'm the opposite of a music snob - I tend to be pretty bad with music, in that I don't care about ~quality~ as long as it's catchy and I enjoy it. It often becomes nothing but white noise in the background as I do other things, anyway, which is why I've never minded kpop or jpop or music where I didn't understand a lick of the lyrics. But JM's was the first band in ages where the lyrics really got to me and where I actually loved them as much as I love the music/song itself. So. So excited that they finally put out a third album. ♥ Loving it.
Goo Goo Dolls - Let Love InSlide is my unofficial half-joking theme for myself, mostly because, what, it's kind of like they're singing my name and that never happens. But lately I've been rocking out to Let Love In and leaving bits and pieces of the lyrics everywhere.
For example, I wrote Hikago fic for
blind_go Round 12:
I'll Take My Chances While You Take Your TimeHikaru no Go, Isumi/OFCs, Isumi/Waya friendship, R, 3425 words
When Go has been your entire life, sometimes you wonder if you've missed something important along the way. Isumi mends bridges and confronts questions without answers.
It's het! It's about Isumi! Which means I'll get about three people who actually read it, lol, but I don't mind. I really need to start writing again. I miss it. (In that way where you miss unhealthy relationships that alternately give you a rush of pleasure and endless bouts of frustrations and self-doubt. Um.)
GD&TOP Oh god, there are not enough synonyms for sex in my ears to describe how much I fucking love this album. Every song on it. I'm so biased, I know, but GD & TOP really complement each other's styles in a way that engages me (and in a way where their solo albums don't get me). How do you even describe their style? It's rap, but it's not hip-hop, it's kind of R&B, kind of electronica, kind of edging on pop sometimes. What do I know of music descriptions? Dude, it's just aural sex. There's also an MV for each song so just hit up Youtube for some visual sex too. I think what I love best is that there is nothing else quite like what they do out there in the kpop scene; it doesn't sound the same as every heavily-produced, auto-tuned, designed-to-be-earworm kpop hit. They are fresh in a weird way, because they actually do a lot of sampling from Western music, so it's not like it's original, but put together, it really works to sound different from most of kpop and a lot of Western stuff too.
02. TV!
Because I've actually sort of been watching TV this season and I have opinions.
SJM's Taiwanese travel show
Fucking hilarious. God, I miss these stupid boys and their embarrassing and awkward adorableness as they fudge their way through Taiwan. Ryeowook is the best, omg. Donghae and Siwon's Chinese is so (surprisingly??) excellent. It's so hot. You get to hear Zhou Mi speak Korean and make fun of people! Sungmin is endearingly fumbling. Eunhyuk continues to fail good-naturedly at everything. Henry is PERFECT. Kyuhyun is a loser. (But Zhou Mi still loves him. ♥)

Episode 3 Top Chef: Just Desserts
I have also caught up on this season! I don't have an outright favorite like last season with Yigit, but I really liked Amanda (she was so preeeeeetty) and am sad she's gone. I really like Sally and am rooting for her! And Orlando is hilariously bitchy but not nearly as much of a jerk as he seems to want the world to think he is.
Dancing With the Stars
There's nothing to say here except OH MY GOD BIGGEST CRUSH ON DEREK HOUGH EVER. Ever since he was partnered with Nicole Scherzinger but alskdjf his choreography, his dancing, his adorable personality! All excellent.
HIMYM
Sooo. I totally ship Barney/Robin.
Hawaii Five-0
Oh god,
mardigrasmaven &
swingingstars get the bulk of my flailing and complaining, but let's sum up with (1) WHAT IS PLOT??, (2) Oh god, not another white person, (3) MORE KONO GODDAMMIT.
Like, I love you Steve, and I actually really like Lori, but when did this show go from buddy-cop show with Asian stars (!!) to every stereotypical guy/girl crime investigator show on TV with token Asian filler because every speaking role/role that moves the plot along goes to a white person? And did Scott Caan seriously piss off the writers or something, because Danny is getting almost less screen time than chin and Kono, and that is tough to do this season.
I miss the snarky banter and goddamn do I miss Kono and Chin being gorgeous and kickass and Wo Fat and Sang Min and more Kamekona and Asians with actual agency.
That said, MASI OKA. LOTS OF MASI OKA. ♥♥♥
I cannot make myself watch Glee or Merlin because they make me alskdfdljsk in ways that are not healthy or fun (omg Glee, I cannot), but I am still totally crushing on Mark Salling (who has a thing for birds! and totally has his own albums! and is like a big brother to Chris Colfer!) and also, Bradley James's face:
(Gifs totally stolen from
naninande. SO GREAT.)
03. Miscellaneous
Pinboard has tag subscriptions now! I'm so thrilled. Now all we have to do is wait a little longer for tag bundles.
My brother is proactively learning how to breakdance right now, so he is literally smearing himself all over the floor as he tries to figure out how to...do all those things with the fancy names I can never be bothere to learn. Call me old, yeah.
Rewatched Howl's Moving Castle like I was gonna, and totally crushing on everyone all over again: CALCIFER, Markl, Howl, the stupid dog, lovely Sophie, her sister Lettie! /cuddles everyone
I love Reasoning with Vampires. This one made me spittake with laughter, picturing it.
