Hello, hello - this is the promised "introduction to Mei" post I said I'd be writing for all you new people (w-why are there so many of you?). Also, any old flisters who are curious! Really this is not that in depth and talks more about my fandom interests (I have a gazillion) than Who I Am As A Human Being, but I figure we have to leave some ( Read more... )

tagging things is a pain, i don't know how to feel about this, whatever dude, can no one shut me up?, pic-spamming, is this the reality you wanted?, meme bandwagon

I think that's a good point actually - the hyperactiveness, I mean! Because kpop is not a closed canon, stuff keeps happening all the time, which means there's always new material to inspire new fics! And then it all adds up and you're like "...whoa."

Hmmmm, I've never really laid this out. Let's see. (WOW, BLOCKS OF TEXT, SORRY. /puts in some paragraph breaks)

1. Draco Malfoy - because I like morally ambivalent characters! And, actually, mostly because of sarahtales/mistful/Maya's old HP fics. And then the fandom helped me develop the rest of my interest. Favorite is easily, easily Draco.

2. Harry Potter - it would be hard to ship H/D if I hated Harry and I don't. I think he's interesting because he's the character we know most intimately, by default because the books are in his POV. I really like to see fandom authors flesh him out believably though, or extrapolate into what kind of person he'd be in later years.

3. Hermione Granger - I love her, even though she is far from perfect or sweet or all things good. She has done some truly heinous things and she has, in her own way, her very set moral judgments of other people. But I love that she's smart and I love that she is sort of awkward with relationships and, god, all of my opinions are less colored by canon than fanon, haha. I just want fandom to treat her nice and explore all the things she could be, for better or for worse.

4. Luna Lovegood - Seriously, I make angry faces at people who don't love her. Not really, but she's just...whimsical, yes, but underneath that such a genuinely lovely person from what we've seen. I think people should embrace people who don't think like them more often and not just dismiss them out of hand because they seem "strange". She has imagination and empathy and she can recognize Harry when he's invisible!

5. Narcissa Malfoy - I never loved the Maurauders the way some people do, I don't share a fascination with Snape or the Blacks, sorry. I love Jason Isaacs as Lucius but Lucius himself does not make me love him. Narcissa, however, Narcissa I love. Because she is cool and hardly Good or on the Side of Light, but she is still under that a mother and a sister and someone who will go so far and risk so much underneath her chilly, beautiful exterior. I love her, I do. I love her seeing handled with subtlety and care in fandom. ♥

stuff keeps happening and your shipping preferences changes and new bands debut and you get sucked into them and sometimes I am so proud of you for getting out, while I'm still feeling a little like an addict who just can't let go :|

LUNA I freaking love Luna. She's just, such a unique character. I know that she'd probably annoy me irl, though, just like Hermione would, but set down on page like that, they're easily two of my favourites. I love how complicated characters in Harry Potter are. There's a lot of grayness in most, if not all, of them.

god I can't even imagine keeping up with all these new bands. It was hard enough just keeping up with SJ. D: But yeah, kpop is this big chaotic vortex that sucks you in and never lets you go. I have no idea how I got out of it, haha.

Yes, yes, the moral grayness is what makes them so interesting and more fun to explore in fic! Mmm now you make me want HP fic. SO MANY DISTRACTIONS.
