Boyfriend First EP, Janus and Iyah(Repackage)

Apr 20, 2013 00:13

An ultra late post but I just got time (and mood) to sit down and listen to the songs carefully one by one, blame those to my procrastinator self and also I got a major project to finish (and it's almost finished now, yay!) and maybe after this I will try to make Infinite's 4th EP, New Challenge. I've been craving to make this post for so long since I wanna share everything and I couldn't bottle it up any longer (that's why I left my almost-some project for this lol) and also because I'm very excited to see Boyfriend comeback with a manly concept instead of cutesy and floral concept they used to have and finally, they've turned into bunch of handsome princes. Okay, now I will just go straight to the songs.
Janus. When I first heard this track, I directly think that this is a heavy song. It is indeed, and I think this is a good song despite being a bit heavy to be sung by Boyfriend. I love it, I thought this is just another kpop song but it grew on me. Jeongmin's soft voice in the beginning is one of my favorite part, I can't help to feel a bit "melted" feeling every time I hear his voice in here the other one is the ending verse which I found it (oddly) good, it's like calming me down from the heavy chorus but it still manages to make me amused. The live performance itself has its pros and cons, I don't really like how they make donghyun and hyunseong to sing in the chorus (many people think that it's only hyunseong who sings the whole chorus but if you really pay attention to it, the chorus is actually splits into two parts, donghyun sings the first part and hyunseong the second (hyunseong's part got more line tho) but because donghyun's voice a bit small (or hyunseong's voice is loud) so people think donghyun's part is only MR) and it kinda ruin the chorus although not really because they sing it really well, especially hyunseong (I actually kinda proud because he has improved so much!) Oh yea, and last I think the bass is good I love it. (8/10)
Good Night (내 꿈꿔). Wow! this song is really really good. I love how how their voices blend, I love the music, it's light and refreshing, a really good song to listen on the radio or even at night to accompany you before you sleep. Overall, this song is so refreshing and really well-sung and beautiful. Overall, this is my favorite song, good! (9/10)
Excuse Me. Nothing stood up from this song tbh. This is like another usual kpop song, it's a bit flat tho so I feel flat too for this song. Definitely not a song that I will listen to it often. (4.5/10)
이랬다 저랬다 (Hyunseong's solo). The song is catchy, I love this but somehow I feel something lacking in this tho I still can't put it out what. (7.5/10)
Mystery. The overlapping voices here kinda annoys me. I don't really enjoy listening to this song. This song is not good nor bad but also not just another song. A bit dissappoiting because I think they can make this better.(6/10)
Go Back. This song calms me down from the track before. A good song although a bit flat but it still manages to sound nice and I think I've listened to this song more than I thought I would. It's not a hard song but it's still nice and calming and I feel comfortable listening to this The brief rap at the end melts me tho, this song really worth to listen. The live performance also not bad. I love it. (8/10)
Stop It. A nice song but only until the title "nice song" because I'm totally not amused. It's catch but not enough. A typical song which I got bored of after the 3rd/4th time of listening and also,I couldn't seem to find the climax of this song. This is not that disappointing but also not amusing. (6/10)
Listen (Donghyun's solo). When I first listened to this song, I know this is a nice song with nice and fun melody and donghyun also sung it really well. It suits him. It's light, catchy and fun! It gives a "jazzy" feeling, also, donghyun's voice has successfully delivered the feels of this song, perfectly, both the voice and music are clear enough and it's really nice to listen . It's the best solo song over hyunseong's and jeongmin's. (8.75/10)
잘지내니/My Dear (Jeongmin's solo). Calming, that's my first thought of this song. The song itself is nice but it'll be nicer if jeongmin's voice a bit clearer. It's a bit repetitive, I think and I don't really listen to this song often, although it's quite nice, I'm just afraid I will get bored after several times listening to this. (7.5/10)
Soulmate. Somehow this song sounds better after I listening to it for several times. Not a bad song but it's a bit basic. It's just as nice as many of Sweet Tune's song. (6.5/10)
Iyah.THIS IS SO FAR BOYFRIEND BEST RELEASED SONG OKAY. I really worship this song, bless everyone who took parts in this song, because it's beautiful. I'm quite shocked because I didn't expect the repackage title track will be this good (the same feelings when I heard Neorago as Sorry Sorry repackage song). It's so good I was like "Why do you put this in repackaged album instead of the LP?!!11!). The live performance was a bit sluggish at first but after they know the response was good (the song even ranked much higher that Janus!) the live performance became more powerful and better. I basically love everything in this song. They should have promoted this song longer. The choreo also really suit the song. I hope they will release something as good as this too in the. Well done, Boyfriend! (9.5/10)
Standing With U (그 곳에. It took me quite a while to find out what song does this song similar to (in which I failed), I ended up concluding this as another similar Sweet Tune song, but this song is quite good and nice to listen and to be honest, I listen to this song often and I haven't got bored yet. This is not a extremely good song that manages to blow me up, no, but it just feel right and nice, this is really my type of song despite not being a really good song. The live performance is quite good too (and they dressed so handsomely for this stage, I melted lol).Honestly this is not even a proper well made song, many people might not like it especially the chorus and also this song might be annoying for some of you, it's just suit my type so that I listen to this more and this is not a really objective scoring, just because I love a certain part of this song. (8/10)

Finally finished writing my thought of Boyfriend latest EP, although I didn't manage to write all my thought of it here but it's pretty much most of  it. Some of the scoring might be a bit subjective (i.e my bias sung a good part really well) especially with the last song. I just wanna share what  I thought of their latest songs. Also, Boyfriend's new Japanese single, Hitomi No Melody (which is now Detective Conan's ending song) is quite okay to listen to, although it might be a little bit boring because it's quite a long song (I prefer the live performance more tho).
On a different note, I'm planning to do Infinite's new EP, New Challenge after this (if I got time).
And last, Starship really made a good decision to make Boyfriend a LP instead of another single/EP, this is (supposed to be) a big leap for Boyfriend, although sadly, Janus couldn't make it as their hit song as what I (and Starship) expected, I personally think they could have won if they promote Iyah as their LP's title track since Iyah ranked quite high for a repackaged album. The songs inside are mostly fall between nice-okay to listen and there're 2 tracks that stood out (Iyah and Good Night) and comparing to other usual idols' released LP, this already can be counted as good (it gives me the same feeling when I listened to Infinite's first LP, Over The Top, maybe except that their title track, Be Mine is strongest than any other song here), they have successfully delivered the manly concept, they've grown maturer than ever and ready to step out to create their big hit. This all could be disappointing tho, if they failed in their next release, so they better be careful in releasing their  next release or else this will be just a long forgotten release and it would be even harder for them to make the hit song that they've been always wanted.
