Scrap the system
I think we should scrap the current system and elect Bob Edwards as president of the USA.
He has excellent national recognition, at least among those who wake up in the morning.
He has been out of sight for long enough that no one is mad at him.
We know that he is capable of handling early hours and long punishing days without complaint.
He knows what is important. I have never heard him mention OJ, for instance.
He is aware of the vicissitudes of the public, and has lots of deep background on national issues.
For those who don't pay attention, and don't know him, the name is similar to another Edwards, or even folks with Edward as a first name. They won't know the difference.
He won't mispronounce words, and can speak well. That is all the presidential candidates have to do. The handlers do everything else.
He won't offend the testosterone-poisoned who believe only men can do the job.
I see no down side here. The idea came to me because I automatically turn off the media when someone starts saying really foolish things in a Texas accent. I thought, "Who would I want to listen to?"
