In the Key of Track Three

They fell in love in the key of C.

Their lives pre-harmony were sang in different octaves, one building up while the other was just letting down. Their hits were always a bit off from each other’s as one’s high was too tight for the other’s release, milking while torturing addiction. Weeds grew to shrubs, shrubs grew to vines, vines that encased the brick wall between their trails, seemingly locking them into only the noise of only one and out of the possibility of music with another. They were pulsing on-off patterns as graphs of their emotions ebbed and flowed without combination: two shoddy lanes taunting each other with the thought of an overlap.

But, a momentary beat did occur every once in a flow though.

Their recurring notes would every so often cross each other’s path and for an instant in music, a week in life, an eclipse of the universe, they’d reach harmony. Harmony, the magical intonation of their lives; the purity of the potential of their relationship was evoked in that split second along their single, perfectly grass lined way. Words, seconds, emotions melted away as pure energy, synergy, collided and became one entity. The patterns of their notes crossed each other in the purest melody of C and they pushed their luck to try and carry that note just a split second longer.

But, even their feeble comprehensions could hear the dull reverberations of a note out of tune.

So they slipped out of love and out of the key of C into post-harmony, as their perfectly aligned bodies split apart along new broken cobble paths. Arms around waists slipped into hands in hands that flew into fingers fluttering in air trying to feel another’s touch. The sound waves were too far apart for them to hear the other’s being once more, as one was reaching its high and the other its low and their strength of human connection weaned and struggled to remain one.

But, it was only a matter of time until they would each round peaks and valleys where their waves would collide again to make another beat in the key of C.
