End of the year post

Jan 01, 2010 10:27

(I totally stole this idea from opticalbinary )

1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
Entered a quilt in the county fair.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make New Year's Resolutions, as a rule. I do hope to be more physically active this year, but that might just be the 'it's cold and I can't walk to town!' speaking. I want to get my genealogy stuff in a workable state, I want to join the local history museum, I want to join the local cemetery preservation society, I want to re-join the local garland dance team, and I want to do more embroidery. And enter another quilt in the county fair.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Jenn had Momo, Jennifer had Anna, Lillian had Jacob, Amy had Faunabelle, Elizabeth had Nirali,  Lora had Eli, Beth had Ronan, Rachel had Asher, Melanie had Meabe - I think I'm forgetting a few.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, THANK GOODNESS! We had a bunch of years in a row of losing family members, starting in 2005. We were so due for a break.

5. What countries did you visit?
I barely visited other states, let alone other countries.

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
More iris blooming in my yard. Blackcap bushes in my yard. No cavities.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 25th, when my oldest son was officially taller than me.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting the kid's dental needs seen to. Barely, but I did, so it still counts.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Is it a good thing or a bad thing that I can't remember? Oh, wait, I know - not getting Elliot's spacer put in during Jan 09, so he wound up with braces in Sept. 09. *sigh* When he had the tooth pulled in Oct 08, Gideon had just died, and I fumbled making the follow-up appointment needed.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
We all had the flu for the month of November. That pretty much sucked.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Grief counseling.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Julia, Shreyas, Elizabeth, my family.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Various hypocritical elected officials, starting with our new mayor. Ergh...that guy.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage, food, gas, bills. After that, books and cloth.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My sister's having another baby!!!!

16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
"Put a Ring On It'", the Glee version.

17. Compared to this time last year, you are:
Happier by far!! I'm more creative, more connected, and more present.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Singing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Scooping random cat poop off the lawn.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I took a day-long break from driving to (on the 24th) and from (on the 26th) my mother-in-law's house. Why do people I love live so far away?

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
I fall in love with my kids and husband every day, for a thousand little reasons.

23. How many one-night stands?
None. Had some weird dreams, though!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Time Team! Followed closely by Glee.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.

26. What was the best book you read?
Hoo-boy, just one?? I seriously can't choose. Non-fiction, it's probably one of the many textile art technique books I've read.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Pomplamoose.

28. What did you want and get?
I got a lot of personal processing done, and I feel much better for it.

29. What did you want and not get?
Cards.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Probably Up. I don't see many movies that came out 'this year'.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I had a sleep-over with my women-friends, and I turned 38. It was so much fun I want to do it again. We all brought our favorite nostalgia junk food, and stayed up late talking and stuff.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Going hiking/biking more as a family.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Wear more skirts! Wear more of the cute clothes you have hiding in your closet!

34. What kept you sane?
Fabric! Also, finding RL and virtual quilting communities. Also, my husband.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hard to say. I'm not much for the celebrity crush.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Why on earth can't we figure out, nationally, that healthcare coverage ought to be like fire coverage or police coverage? Fund healthcare, libraries, police, fire, schools and public works (sanitation, parks, roads, etc). Duh.

37. Who did you miss?
LeEarl, Travis, and Gideon. I also would have liked to hang out with Kate more.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Hmm. Did I meet anyone new this year? Maybe Marika. Yeah, I'll go with that. Or Molly. Molly's good, too, for different reasons.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
If it's not bringing you joy, and it's not critical to your life, change it or ditch it.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"Happiness runs in a circular motion; love is like a little ship upon the sea - everything's apart of everything anyway, you can have it all if you let yourself BE."
