Babies.

I just stumbled across this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1318368/New-mothers-aged-19-54-From-contraception-failure-IVF.html

It features five women from the UK that have recently had children. These women range in age from 19 to 54. Yes, 54. It is a celebration of these women and of motherhood, but I can't help but question a few things. The 54 year old woman already has eight children. She endured IVF treatments in order to have these babies, but was considered too old to be treated in the UK. This is a post-menopausal woman that just gave birth to twins...

I am far from being the person to say that one person should have children when another should not, and I'm not going to tell someone that they are too old or too young (even though there are definite limiting factors on either side).  Obviously, I'm not really okay with very young mothers; children shouldn't be having babies... I seriously question the 54 year old's decision (and the 46 year old's decision).

There are so many children out there that don't have families. There are so many INSANE health risks associated with an older mother carrying a pregnancy, and there is no medical reason for a post-menopausal woman to undergo IVF. I respect her want and urge to be a mother... at that point however, that's what grand babies are for.

And I don't mean to sound cruel... It is simply difficult for me to understand. There comes a point in every woman's life where she is no longer fertile, and that's okay. With eight children already, I don't see how carrying twins was necessary... though they are beautiful babies that wouldn't be here otherwise...

I mean, she's 54... my mother is 53 and has three grown children (24, 28, and OMG 30!), a 4 year old grand child, and a second grand child on the way. She gets her love and cuddles and baby time in... but she's at the stage of her life where being a hip grandmother is okay. 54 years old and having twins? Induced at 6months? Almost died during childbirth? After having eight children before the twins?! EEEEK.

(Note: the prominent crucifix around her neck...)
