You know what I really want to do right now? I want to go out with some friends! But I don't have any friends! They've all left me for spring break. Even Alexis is gone... so sad. We've basically been attached at the hips this last month; I feel incomplete without her. Now I have nothing to do but sit around... and get fat(ter). But no! Now

Being the wise sage that I am (yeah, right!) I won't judge you on your decision to diet.....if...it truly is YOUR DECISION. When it comes to weight, gaining, losing, or maintaining,...as in almost all other things in life...you are not going to be truly happy if you give into pressure and do smething that you may not like, and I don't just mean pressure from your friend to lose, but also pressure from us here, who, like me, want to see you delightfully fatten up. Anyway.....enough of that, and NO PRESSURE HERE....just try no to think about that cheesecake, oe Mc Donald's, or donuts, or ice cream, or mac and cheese, or milkshakes, or.....

OK,sorry about all that. If this truly is a temporary thing, it will slow down your metabolisim, and whjen you come to your senses....er...I mean when the diet is over...you will gain more and gain faster.

Meantime, thought you would enjoy something that I observed in a grocery store checkout over the weekend. I was in the express lane, ansd ahead of me was a mom (of "average" build) and her daughter...probably about 10-12 years old. They were buying a few items, but I noticed 2 packages of oreos, and a carton of ice cream. Oh, the daughter was of sorta average build too, but she did have a bourgeoning pot belly. Anyway...daughter picked up one of the Oreo packages and said to mom "I'm really getting to be a fat girl" and mom smiled and proceeded to give daughter's pot belly a little love pat. Nothing else was said, but it certainly got my attention! Not sure if mom was a feeder of sorts, or just playfully teasing daughter, or what? When you worked at the ice cream place did you ever see anything like this? I will say that whatever the situation I was impressed that mom did not say something like "you need to diet (etc)"

No, never boring. I love your long posts! Dieting will slow down my metabolism? Really? I've discovered that I actually have a fast metabolism. I am and have always been a hearty eater: I have to eat a lot just to maintain my bodyweight. I have to eat a ton to gain weight.

What a lovely little story! Are you sure the girl wasn't being sarcastic or something? Or that her mom only thought the girl was joking? Or maybe the girls mother just understands that there's nothing wrong with a little extra flesh on her daughter.

When I worked at Marble Slab I saw fat families eating together, fat parents with skinny kids who would probably inevitably follow in their parents footsteps, and fat kids with skinny parents giving in to and fulfilling their child's desires. I saw many parents smiling at their chubby children munching on ice cream cones, but there were also some who denied for their children larger sizes and made them get smaller ones instead. Ice cream was never refused, but then again, why would they be inside of an ice cream store if that was going to be the case.
