I keep blinking at news of your weather. I had to wait until 7pm before I went out to do yard work & even at that I was roasting.

This *is* very unusual weather for us. Part of it is due to the Southern Oscillation cycle, which is currently in a La Nina year. This means that the east coast of Australia gets more rain, and breaks the last ten year bundle of El Nino years which have been bringing drought to that side of the country. However, the other side of it is due to global climate change, the results of which have been becoming slowly more visible over here since about 1977 ( ... )
