H1N1

My brother came home with "The flu". Which, thruthfully, isn't surprising due to the fact that he is in the risk group for it. (Dont know why he didn't get the shot, but eh, too late now) Those that have slept over at my house can attest to his rather long coughing and hacking fits in the morning, whether he has the flu or not. It has just gotten worse in the last few day; he's had a high fever, he's coughing through out the whole day, his throat is really sore, and he has had to miss three days of class so far.

Now, I understand why people should not go into school or work if they have this, but my brother is in a really competitive program and he is missing a lot of important work. When he decided that he couldn't miss anymore due to fear of getting too far behind, he got treated like a pariah and told simply to leave, and not quitely either, but loudly, in front of his whole class. I understand the reason why he shouldn't have gone in! But I do not understand why they felt the need to treat him so rudely, or why the college is not offering any of the students that are getting sick any way of keeping up with the work they are missing. He was just told not to come in. Some of his classes only allow a certain number of days for absences before immediate failure. No, you should not go into work or school if you have the H1N1 Flu, but I think that the schools and workplaces should have more options and leniency for the people that do catch it. Everyone needs to have a better plan for prevention and for helping those that get sick.

Sorry. Just a little pissed off on my brothers behalf. He works really hard, probably harder than he should now that he is sick, and I worry about him.

eh...and I seem to have caught his cough, but other than that I am good. I cross my fingers and hope he and anyone else who has caught this bug get better soon!
