Yesterday we went to Hikone where we visited the Hikone museum (where one can dress like a
Samurai and learn to
fit rocks together to build), the
Hikone castle, and the extensive gardens around the castle. There was a special
Lego exhibit that was rather beautiful to see. The weather was absolutely perfect, cool and dry and breezy, for a walking tour. The castle was pretty high up so there was a lot of climbing, both up the hill to arrive at the castle and once in the building where the steps were narrow and steep.
Before returning home we visited a shopping plaza. We've been trying to find an English version of the most recent Harry Potter book, but to no avail. ( ;_; )
We returned and rested for a couple of hours before going out to eat at a nearby Thai restaurant. That was fun and delicious.
My new WoW character is at level 10 now.
Today we went into Kyoto where
we visited Ginkakuji (the
Silver Pavillion). It is surrounded by beautiful gardens, including
Zen type sand and stone gardens, other stone gardens, and lots of moss and rocks and trees. It's simply beautiful.
We ate at a local soba shop--delicious!
Then we went to Gion, Yasaka Jinja, where a festival was going on. We happened upon a drum performance and a
lion dance. Then we visited another book store and still couldn't find Harry Potter. ( ;_; ) We did some more shopping and paused to eat at the Lipton tea shop where we tried some desserts. ( ^_^ ) After walking around we tried to
watch a parade and saw parts of it get started, but when we realized it'd probably take an hour to watch the whole thing we decided to head back home. Surprisingly the train was over 50 minutes late; it had been ten minutes late in the morning. They announced that something had happened and that they were doing more safety checks. Having not watched the news, we still don't know what is happening. We made it back just fine, though.
For supper we made some yummy Japanese squash; I just love it.
