Last Friday, Jeff, Oliver, Papa, & Gramma went to Golden Springs Elementary School to watch the cutest little Thanksgiving Show! The two kindergarten classes came together and performed a slew of songs. We were really impressed with the amount of songs and the memorization the kids used to perform them! Here are some sweet pictures of our little American Indian girl Audrey!
The only thing Audrey told us about her show beforehand was that she was a "block kid." Here is Audrey, a "block kid," standing on a block in the back row. :) Her best friends are to her right - the boy is Luke and further down at the end is Lucy.
They formed a circle and performed right in front of me. Her back was to me most of the time but at one point I whispered "Audrey" and she turned and gave me her classic happy girl smile!
Singing and dancing with her classmate. She was also so excited to wear her Indian outfit. She picked out the brown clothes to match. It was "Western Day" at her school for their monthly school spirit day but Audrey said those types of clothes didn't match her Indian outfit. She got her way in the end and I was okay with that. (It has been a constant struggle to get her dressed in the mornings. She's been boycotting wearing a uniform because "other kids don't wear uniforms every day." And then when it's free dress day, which is Fridays, she picks something so outrageous I have to tell her to change....)
After the show, the kids shared a meal together. Her teacher moved all their desks into one long table. They started by sharing a poem they read altogether. I loved watching Audrey. She was swelling with pride and was just so excited to have her family come see her classroom!
The kids helped mix the ingredients to make the pumpkin pie, cornbread, and butter spread for the cornbread. Audrey is raising her hand because her teacher was asking true-false questions about the first Thanksgiving.
Here is Audrey with one of her favorite people in the world - her teacher, Mrs. Perkins! She really is a great teacher - very calm, patient, and loving towards the kids! Audrey mimics her at home when she plays school - her favorite activity at the moment! We had the option to sign Audrey out early after the show. Audrey didn't want to leave with us! She wanted to stay in her classroom! That is how much she loves school. :-D
Audrey's turkey! Gobble Gobble!
FLASHBACK TO BEFORE SCHOOL
Fridays are "late start" every week so I've been taking Audrey to school. We played before it was time to go but then I had to feed Oliver. So Audrey started a journal mimicking the one she has at school. She wrote this sentence on her own - I helped her with sounding out but she figured out all the sounds and spelling patterns (like "-ing") on her own. Her picture is going to be the "block kids"!
Oliver did some great Tummy Time while Audrey did her writing!
DAY BEFORE: Audrey told me she would be wearing home the costume she wouldn't be wearing for the show on Thursday. Only she didn't come straight home on Thursday - she went to Pomona Hope like she always does. I went to pick her up that evening because Jeff had a Session meeting. When I saw her from afar with Jeff, my first thought was, "What is Jeff doing with that little baby?" She looked like a preschooler. She was so small and wearing this pilgrim outfit which looked like a baby outfit from afar! Jeff told me she kept her costume on during all of Pomona Hope and was SO. PROUD. of it! Hahaha! Why is Audrey so nerdy and adorable at the same time?! :)
And finally.... Audrey's Kindergarten Portrait! (It felt like these took FOREVER to come in!) Her smile sums up how she feels about school - happiness mixed with a lot of nervousness. What a sweet girl. We love her so!
