I had a birthday last week. I turned 31. It was my first birthday as a Mommy. Jeff was really cute and sweet about it. He got me some yellow flowers, cards & gifts, and treated me to some take-out sushi and one of my favorite desserts - cannoli! He even had Audrey "sign" her name on a card from her to me - my first birthday card from my daughter. I really appreciated the simple thoughtfulness my husband put into my birthday. :)
Audrey also hit a birthday milestone - she is now 8 months old! I'm getting a little antsy for her to start crawling or get her first tooth but at the same time, I'm glad she's still trying to figure all that out. I keep thinking it'll be "any day now" that she'll figure out how to crawl or that first tooth will just pop right up... All in good time, I suppose!
Here's what Audrey is up to lately:
- She figured out how to purposely clap her hands. She does it most often when she is excited or she see us clapping. It's super cute!
- She is reaching more and more for her toys which is enabling her to at least scoot, which will perhaps lead to actual crawling. It seems like she is strong enough to crawl but hasn't coordinated her arms with her legs yet so she often ends up in a "downward dog" style pose! Or she pushes herself backwards. Despite not crawling, she is still rather mobile!
- She loves music. She listens intently when either Jeff plays his guitar or I play my ukulele. She loves listening to music and "dancing" with us. Just this week, she started bobbing her head a lot when she gets excited or if fun music is playing. It makes her look like she's rocking out! She's also been patting things a lot lately as if to play the drums. Watch out world! Here comes the next Ringo Starr!
- She sits like a big girl in her stroller now. When we go for walks, no more seeing the world from her carseat - I have her sitting in the kid portion of the stroller so she's facing forward as we walk. She loves it! She'll talk, sing, shout, and kick her legs with joy as we walk around the neighborhood!
- I just recently introduced the sippy cup to her. She hasn't quite figured out how to hold it herself but she has at least figured out how to drink from it. I put 1/4 juice and 1/4 water in it the first time but now I'm wondering if it's still too soon for juice? She loves it but I don't want her to get a sweet tooth to early...
Food is one thing that I am constantly paranoid about.. I still feed Audrey jar food by Nature's Best. If I had the time and energy, I'd make my own baby food. I'm thinking that will be my goal for this summer, when I finally have more time and energy!
Until that day when I have more time, here are a few pictures:
