Our Pumpkin Patch Kid

Yesterday we attended the Pumpkin Festival at Cal Poly Pomona! Us and all of L.A. county.... (it was super crowded)

This festival is really neat! The patch itself is HUGE! Frankly, Jeff & I were overwhelmed with the selection of good pumpkins that we just reached down and picked one up and there we had it - our Halloween pumpkin for the year. We spent the rest of our time in the patch taking pictures with Audrey and watching her to see how long she could handle all this over-stimulation. The other awesome thing about this patch is that all the pumpkins are $5. They're all pretty much the same size but it's still a great deal! We only got one this year since only one would fit in the stroller.

Jeff is already making plans for next year.... He wants to get a wagon (the popular mode of transportation for kids and pumpkins) and get three pumpkins next year - one for each of us in our little family. It's cute listening to him discuss all the possibilities for the future! We also want to get there earlier next year so we can look at some of the food booths (Jeff wanted roasted corn and I wanted pumpkin pie) as well as the Kellogg Farm Store, where they have great deals on all kinds of produce.

Something else we need to plan better next time is the whole parking situation. We had to park pretty far from the patch and ended up walking about 20 minutes to get there. That was both good and bad. Good: Audrey slept during the car ride and walk and was awake once we got to the patch so she got to experience the pumpkin patch, as much as a 2.5 month old can experience a pumpkin patch. Bad: On the way back, Audrey had a meltdown in her stroller - poor baby...

To solve this problem, we stopped halfway back to our car at a little grassy knoll that didn't get a lot of foot-traffic. We changed her diaper and I nursed her right there on the grass. It was uncomfortable at first but then we got the hang of it. Afterward, we let her lay on her portable changing mat and she LOVED it! She was cooing and ah-ing like crazy. We also put her feet on the grass for the first time. She liked that too. We decided right then that we definitely need to go to the park more often!

This was a fun little escapade for our family! Tiring... but fun!
