Root Canal Phase 1

Feb 08, 2010 22:33

Well, I survived an hour in the Dentist's chair today getting the first phase of the root treatment done. I wouldn't say it was an entirely pain free procedure. I had what the dentist called "A hot pulp" and that has nothing to do with the kind of fiction that I write. LOL.

It means that bacteria have infected the pulp of the tooth and have begun to attack the nerve. Not enough to kill it, but enough to make the nerve 'jumpy' and reactive. It took three shots, one of them directly INTO the nerve to settle it enough for her to even open the tooth.

If a dentist ever offers to give you a shot, right into a nerve, and says it will be 'quite sore' for the first second or two. Here's my advice. "GET THE HECK OUTTA DODGE!"

Actually, it was really sore for a couple of seconds, but it went really dead after that, so I can't really grumble. It just hurt more than what I would have called, "Quite sore."

So I have to go back for more of this cruelty on the 23rd to finish the root treatment off.

The tooth in front remains broken, and I am looking forward to that being fixed as my reward for suffering through the root canal.

I did get huge kudos from the dentist about my standards of dental hygiene since last visit. She told me that if I keep it up to that standard, the treatment she is giving this tooth now, will stand a very good chance of lasting me a good few years. That was nice to hear.

A couple of days ago, my car "Came of Age" as in reached 100,000klm on the odometer. I wasn't present when that happened. Sandra had taken the car to her mother's house and the number's clicked over on the way, so she took photos on her phone to show me. We had the dickens of a time getting those photos off that old phone and ended up taking photos of the photos today. Sorry this is a bit grainy, but here it is.

Okay, that's enough from me. I need some codeine. :)
