I've seen a few people do these recently, and I thought it would be good for me to do it too, so I am going to list my 'best ofs' for 2008. Starting with books. The following are the best books I have read this year. They might not all have been published in 2008, but I read them this year and loved them, so here they are.
1. Captain's Surrender by Alex Beecroft. (Linden Bay romance)
This book left me speechless and made me want to be Alex Beecroft when I grow up. It thoroughly deserves the number one spot. I reviewed this book on
Amazon.com 2. Quod Tam Sitio by A M Riley (Torquere)
I loved this book. It appealed to me on so many levels. M/M about a priest! yay! and a vampire! Yay! and the cover! Yay!
My review. 3. Brackets by AKM Miles (Torquere)
This is a debut novel and a 'thumping good one!' to quote a line from Harry Potter. I loved the characters, I loved the way the author drew me into her world and made it come alive. The scenery, the dialogue and this cover made the finals of a recent best covers contest. I hope it wins. AKM Miles is a talented writer and one I plan to keep an eye on in the future. I love her work!
Yay for covers sans man-titties!
4. Vinculum by James Hogue (Torquere)
This story just captivated me, start to finish. I'm still waiting anxiously to find out if there will be a sequel. I thoroughly enjoyed the supernatural aspects of this story, and the cover is pretty good, too. I actually reviewed this book and you can read my review at the
Torquere Website.

5. Win and Lose by T C Blue
This is a great novella and I think is another debut story for its author. I also reviewed this book, and you can read the review at
Torquere Books This highball is one that came out with the new highball cover format, and I quite like it. It captures one of the main characters within, quite well.
So those are my top five books for 2008. All M/M and all but one from Torquere Books. Three very strong debuts from authors that I think will bear further watching.
These are by no means the only great books I read this year. I'd like to make mention here too of Ally Blue's BCPI Series, Syd McGinley's Dr Fell Series, Lee Bemoit's Servant of the Seasons, and Magic and the pagan by Mychael Black and Shane Carmichael.
I've had some great reads this year and I'm looking forward to some more great reads in 2009!
