Surpised Author
I received an email today from a living descendant of Patrick Halligan who was murdered near Rockhampton in the 1860s and whose story was a large part of the inspiration behind The Heart Divided.
This came as such a delightful and astonishing surprise, that I was actually shaking like a leaf and probably barely coherent when I replied to the lady!
I never expected, when I set out to write a story inspired by historical events which occurred so long ago, that I would actually be discovered by living people who are connected in any way to those events.
I'm still shaking my head and smiling with bemusement.
I hope that the story will be of interest to the family members of the man who met with such a cruel and grisly fate. Even though my book is not his story per se, it was very deeply inspired by his story and there are some parallels.
All I can say, is Wow! Ain't the internet grand?
