Megan Jones

Name: Megan Catrin Jones
Gender: Female
Date of birth: 29-02-1980
House/Year: Hufflepuff (1991-1997) [she spent 1998 in Azkaban and never completed her 7th year]
Blood status: Muggleborn
Sexuality: Hetro
Suggested livejournal username: its_curioser
PB/Avatar: Jessica Lee Rose (blonde)
Physical characteristics: Hailing from Cemaes Bay, Wales, Megan spent most of her childhood in the sun as did her parents and ancestors, giving her skin a naturally sunkissed glow and keeping her hair blonde. After Azkaban Megan spent less time in the sun and her hair has begun to darken more to a dishwater colour. Her eyes are wide and brown, and her face round - often making her look younger than she is. Megan is often times assumed to be 15 and is regularly asked why she isn't in school. She has a pert nose and a Cupid's bow mouth. But despite that, one of her most dominating features is, strangely enough, her dark eyebrows that clash so dramatically with her hair that most people assume she's a potion-bottle-blonde. She's not and the insinuation that she lies about her hair upsets her. She's of average height - 5'5" - and underweight due to lack of funds and a penchant for being a Vegan.

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take.
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
finding myself making every possible mistake

Distant History:
Parents:
Dylan Jones (58) - A fisherman from a long line of generations of fisherman. He is a large and stoic man, strict and unyielding in his beliefs and opinions. He and his family are Roman Catholics who attend mass every week. He also has a severe gambling addiction which is one reason for his family's relative poverty. Dylan does not support Megan being a witch at all.
Adwen Jones, nee Williams (57) - Adwen works in her family's bakery - Williams Bakery, on the High Street - that her brother and his wife own as a way of helping to support her family. Of course, she tells Dylan she's helping her brother so he doesn't feel that he isn't the breadwinner of the family. Adwen clings tightly to her religion and seeks it as an answer for all problems.

Siblings
Griffin Jones (27) - Griffin is your typical bully. Tall, broad shouldered, blond haired and blue eyed, he's looked upon as a good looking boy - but there's something in him as opposite from his good natured sister as possible. He spent the majority of their childhood teasing and taunting her, making it his mission to see if he could get her to break down and cry. When she became a witch and got to leave Cemaes, Griffin was livid with jealousy, but morphed it into making her time home even more unbearable. The only time he let up was the brief period she came home after Azkaban. Somehow, seeing that empty and hollow look in his sister's normally bright eyes made him think twice. He'd always wanted to break her... and someone else beat him to it. Currently he works on the boats, fishing, with his father and wishing he could get out and resenting Megan who has.

Megan was born smiling. She was a well behaved baby, seldom crying and always inquisitive. She never quite grew up and out of that childish glee and wonder that has always surrounded her.

When she was five her father took her to the docks to see what he did. She saw them filleting fish and was sick over the side. She's never eaten animals since - much to her parents chagrin. As she grew up the list of foods she would eat seemed to shrink as she became a vegan and then intensely health conscious. Before she got her Hogwarts letter she was refusing to eat sweets, processed foods, and anything that came unwillingly from any animals. She didn't extol these choices, since she did know they were unusual, but she never minded talking about them - at length - whenever she was asked.

Megan loved Hogwarts. Not the school part, as she never seemed to really grasp her classes, but the social part. She was a butterfly, flitting from one thing to another. She passed notes in class, whispered constantly, and was a regular in detention. One memorable detention saw her telling Professor Snape, quite seriously, that he could SO find a girlfriend if he smiled more. And maybe wore brighter colours!! She was sure that red would look so good! Snape promptly put her with Filch and refused to sit another detention with her.

The one thing that brought Megan down was the death of Cedric in her fourth year. She had looked up to the older boy as the brother she'd never had in Griffin. He never shooed her away and always seemed to have endless patience with her. She admired and adored him, and his death shook her hard. Megan spent most of that summer curled up with her Alice and watching the ocean outside her window.

By the time she returned to school, Megan was beginning to return to her old self. Professor Umbridge certainly didn't help though. Megan could not reconcile how a woman who wore so much pink and loved kittens could be so cruel and unfair. It boggled her mind and completely skewed her moral evaluations of right and wrong. But Megan kept her head down and made it through the year. Dumbledore's death at the end jarred her, but as the older man had been barely more than a mythical figure with twinkling eyes, it was hard for her to be as devastated as she was with Cedric. She soon learned she had much more to worry about anyways.

That summer the Ministry fell to Voldemort. Being the good and honest girl she was, Megan was one of the first in line to register as a Muggleborn like she was told - dressed up in a pleated pink skirt and a pressed white blouse with pretty pink flowers around the collar, her favourite outfit. It would be the last time she ever wore it. Umbridge accused her of lying about her magic, of stealing a wand from a little witch after being jealous of her powers. Megan cried and begged, pleading that she would never lie and that she just wanted to go home to her parents and her hamster. But Umbridge sneered and told her that she had to pay for being a bad, evil little thief. Megan was soon taken by the dementors and thrown into Azkaban.

Azkaban was horrid for her. She saw Cedric die every die. Heard her brother taunt her every hour. Remembered Umbridges words every minute. Struggled to breathe every second. The time bled into each other, and she'd given up hope, stopped praying, and resigned herself to being afraid forever when - finally - after nine months, she and the other survivors were released. She was seventeen years old.

Megan decided not to return to Hogwarts, and instead focused on her photography. She'd loved it in Hogwarts and turned to it as an outlet for her now. Knowing that she wouldn't be able to make a career out of it on her cheap and basic camera and lack of a darkroom, Megan took a job as a maid at a muggle motel and moved into a cramped studio flat in Hackney - setting off on her own for the first time. Her mother bought her a tiny orange Holland lop bunny so she wouldn't be alone. She named her Marmalade.

I'm a young soul in this very strange world
hoping I could learn a bit about what is true and fake.
But why all this hate? Try to communicate
finding trust and love is not always easy to make

Recent History: Megan spent five years in the small flat before she finally had enough money saved up to purchase a more professional camera. it was either that or rent a bigger flat. The bigger camera was more important. The neighborhood she lived in gradually deteriorated, and she took to carrying a stick transfigured into a Muggle handgun in her purse.

That didn't stop a man from trying to mug her - if not more. She screamed at the top of her lungs, alerting a bobby who happened to be passing by. The man took off and Megan dissolved into tears. That settled it. She pawned the new camera and found a flat in Eutrepe's Corner in Diagon Alley the next week. The camera might be important to her future career, but she wouldn't have a career and maybe not a future if she didn't get out of the obscene conditions she lived in.

Finding a hotel closer to Diagon Alley, Megan quit her current one to cut down on the amount of time she had to spend alone on the streets. She also worked on her rusty apparation skills and magic. Even though she hadn't finished Hogwarts, she had been over 17 when she left on her own terms and so her wand hadn't been confiscated. Even so, she'd barely used it since Azkaban. She started again. Just little things, apparation and cleaning charms, but enough to help her practice again.

For now she is content to be in a safe building, with other people around, and the comfort of her bunny. She thinks this is the happiest she's been in over 5 years.

This is a happy end
'cause you don't understand
everything you have done.
Why is everything so wrong?

Current employment status: Megan wants to eventually be a wildlife photographer, but for now she'll photograph anything people pay her to take pictures of. Unfortunately people don't often do that so she has to make rent and scrap meals together working part time as a maid at a cheap Muggle hotel since she isn't authorized to work in the Wizarding World due to having not finished Hogwarts.

This is a happy end
come and give me your hand
I'll take your far away

Personality: Outwardly Megan is very simple. She's honest and full of smiles and expressive faces. She can't stand the idea of hurting anything so she's a strict vegan, and would rather put herself through turmoil than subject anyone else to it. Megan is the type of girl who has never told a lie and doesn't like to believe her friends and loved ones are capable of telling a lie either. She is more likely to be devastated by the revelation someone close to her has told her a little white lie than about what they lied about. She tries really hard to maintain an outward appearance of capability. She might not have NEWTs but she works hard to pay her own rent and keep up her bills. But more than that, she gives her all to make sure friends and family don't know that she's still deeply effected by her year in Azkaban. She has night terrors a few times a month and has to resort to a dose of Dreamless Sleep that she was given by St. Mungo's after her release to help with the nightmares. She never wants to ask for a refill so she regulates it extremely carefully - often times not taking quite enough to block all the night terrors out for her entire sleep and they'll reappear right before her waking. Her flatmates might hear her screaming once in awhile, but if they go to her she'll insist she's fine.

One thing that helped Megan cope in Azkaban and helps her still now is her love of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Originally read to her by her Grandmum, Megan identified deeply with the wide eyed and naive Alice and became immersed in the world of Wonderland, retreating there as a safe place when her brother would taunt her and after Cedric died. In Azkaban she didn't have her book, but she had her memories and she would resite it when the dementors would become too much for her. Now, after Azkaban, she reads Alice after waking from night terrors and the lines spill from her mouth when she is scared or frightened. One of her manifestations of Post Traumatic Stress is an obsession with cleaning. After a year of no showers and a filthy cells she has become obsessed with seeing dust and dirt and grime everywhere. She views every layer of imaginary grit that she clears away as a piece of Azkaban she's rubbed out.

Megan was raised in a deeply religious family and was very religious throughout Hogwarts. She's lost some of that faith since Azkaban, however. Oftentimes Megan has a hard time reconciling her faith with her existence as a witch and what's happened to her at Azkaban. She still clings to it, but has stopped going to confession and mass.

But she is generally a happy and bubbly person. She is one of the most genuinely good people in existence and she would do anything to help a friend, flatmate or stranger. She doesn't dislike people at all and strives to see the good in every bad. As a flatmate she'd be just as difficult to dislike as she would be to tolerate. Her cleaning obsessed ways, non-stop chatter, and occasional night terrors aren't easy things to put up with. But she's fiercely protective, positive, and trusting to a fault. Megan is probably the best friend you will ever have since you know you could trust her with your life.
