The creachers were so hideous, it was almost impossible to think that they’d one been human. Spit ran in long ropes from their protruding lower jaws, the small amount of light the flames gave gleamed on their sharp, stained teeth and their pitch black eyes gleamed with the madness of a hunger unmatched. Their skin was a palled grey, ravaged by a perpetual hunger that could not be sated, making them all but skin and bone, long hair dark and tangled.
They didn’t breed, but considering the large scale of human death there had been, they didn’t need to.

They were caught in the small square of light the lamps provided, thankfully it was enough to prevent the spawn from coming too close, as the light burned them horribly. The children cried out when the foul things reached for them and clung tightly to Luca as she shielded them with her body and swung the plank off wood she’d picked up on her way to look for the missing children, silently cursing herself for coming unprepared.
The creatures hissed and howled when she connected, constantly grabbing for the small children hidden behind her, though she knew thy’d be just as happy with her. Luca didn’t know how much longer she could hold up and hoped someone else would find them and help.
Daybreak couldn’t come fast enough.
