Confession

I have a problem.
I am an "Adventure Game" addict.

I can't help myself. I like (usually) not dying. I like clicking endlessly through slide shows of still from pre-rendered scenes. I like being finally forced to look at the walkthrough solution after trying to toss my monitor out of the window in utter and absolute frustration at trying to solve a damn puzzle!

Myst did it for me. I got that game for Christmas in...'95? '96? I begged for it. The box made it look so darn cool. I wanted to be the one to explore those worlds! What games looked like that? Nintendo didn't look like that. The old shooters sure as hell didn't look like that!

And then in '98 they finished working on the sequel, Riven. Riven is STILL my favorite game. I can spend literally hours just wandering around, describing things in journals that I've started keeping for the Myst series (no, I'm serious. I've begun a journal for each game describing each situation and the assumed canon between games as though I'm really living it). It was a HARD game that made me learn a new number system (hell, Myst made me use long division to solve one puzzle). But the frustration was part of the enjoyment!

I've branched out since then. Oh, Cyan Worlds are still my go-to guys when it comes to the absolute BEST story, graphics, puzzles, etc. I've played every sequel to Myst (except Myst 5, which I've read too much about to bother actually spending money to be disappointed), read all the novels, created journals and desktop themes involving the Myst universe...but I've branched out!

Gametap certainly helped. They offered realMyst for free until December, so I just had to try it out. I paid for a gold subscription to get to the others. Aura, Sentinel, Mysterious Island, I've played it.

Best Buy helps too! They've got a ton of PC games for $9.99. I've bought Keepsake, Lights Out, and Journey to the Center of the Earth. :D

I HAVE A PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND I DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So...yeah. That's where I've been lately. The Channelwood Age in MYST or some snowy puzzle-ridden mountain in Aura.

On an unrelated note I've really gotten into cooking lately. Monica is very happy with this development. ;) Also, WE'RE GETTING A COUCH TODAY! And possibly our cable back soon! :D Yay.

games, myst, cooking
