Holiday Fun

Jan 05, 2004 19:49

Yes, the holidays are officially over and so we begin a new year. Scary, I know.

My break was pretty uneventful. I split it evenly between Sebastian and St. Louis. Saw a TON of people from Sebastian that I haven't talked to in like 72 years...

* Daniele (has been living it up in Jacksonville apparently)
* Casi (but she never called me to again so I could go see Summer)

~INTERRUPTION: I just turned on the radio and "Here I Go Again On My Own" (a la Old School)is on... excellent... okay back to the Sebastian list~

* Sean Nolan (yeah, you thought he was dead, too, didn't you)
* Ryan Kafer (also not dead)
* Blake (still a big liar, but I love him anyway)
* Kevin (looking like an extra on That 70s Show - the only guy on which I actually like facial hair)
* Nick (in the NAVY - weird)
* Scott (also in the Navy - weird)
* Chris Deng (almost graduated from the Naval Academy and still looks exactly the same)
* and apparently a bunch of other people on Christmas at Robby's house, but I don't remember much of that night... damn dollar Amber Bocks!!

Funny side story from that night - I was supposed to leave for the Orlando airport at 3 am on December 26... so I stumble in at 2:15 and still haven't packed. When I finally arrive in St. Louis (don't ever fly hungover by the way - not fun at all), unpacking was quite an adventure. Half of the clothes were dirty, I brought my flask but no socks, I thought it would be really amusing to bring a toiletry bag with NOTHING in it... etc etc etc. Good times. Thank you Emily for the numerous trips to Wal*Mart to make up for it.

It was also amazingly cool to spend time with Adam Jones, Stacey Plate, and Baily, but I talk to them a lot anyway so they don't get included in the "I-thought-you-were-dead" list.

So I know you are all DYING to know about the trip to St. Louis, and I'll have you know that the rumors are true - I DID get stood up on New Years Eve. But don't fret - I was a good Florida State girl and decided that the best thing to do was not to sit at home, Bridget Jones style, and sing Chaka Kahn... I decided the best course of action was to go to a bonfire party with my cousin and get ridiculously drunk. I actually ended up meeting a boy there who goes to Embry-Riddle - so I went all the way to Missouri to meet a boy from Florida. Go figure.

I did get to see Kevin and Ryan and their respective families, which was cool. They are both doing amazingly well. I also got to have lunch with my elementary school gifted teacher, Mrs. Ryder, who I LOVE and miss terribly.

Revised List of Why I Want to Move to St. Louis:

1. Jack in the Box - the best fast food restaurant ever. Tacos, curly fries and caramel shakes were my sustenance throughout the entire trip. Absolutely glorious.

2. My cousins - yes, the little ones were a bit of a handful and did get a little annoying, but overall we all had a really great time together. I wish I could have spent a little more time with Angie and Andrew. BIG thanks goes out to Emily, who shared her room, her truck, her friends and her advice with me almost all day, everyday. She is truly an angel and I cannot wait to live closer to her. (PS - We are starting a punk band called Killer Tofu when I move up - if you don't get the name, then you did not watch nearly enough cartoons when you were younger and I am ashamed to be your friend)

3. The Delmar Loop - possibly the coolest atmosphere ever - not tomention really great Italinan food. And I found my future living room furniture in one of the little shops... can anyone lend me $6000?? (Adam Jones, can you just add it to your credit card debt??)

4. The Gambling Boats - We planned a family outing to go drinking and gambling - truly a moment I will probably be sharing with my therapist in the future. Matt, Andrew, my Aunt Kathleen, my mom and I went to Ameristar and blew about $100 in like ten minutes. Then we had beers and left. I loved every second of it.

So that about wraps it up - there were many funny moments throughout the holiday that I would love to recount but very few people would think were funny. Like the cartoon Joe and Jocie were watching that stated (very seriously) that "Night is just like day - only darker." Or Andrew reaching his hands out and asking my mom (quite sincerely) "Am I right?". Or my mother calling 18 hospitals in the middle of the night because she was sure I had either been kidnapped, raped, or drowned in the Mississippi River. Or Ryan and I only being able to find Imo's. But we'll save those for another journal entry so you don't kill yourslef before reaching the end of this horribly long entry.

It's great to be back in Tallahassee. I missed my roommates (and Chris) so incredibly much... not to mention sleeping in my own bed and Steve's big screen TV.

Student teaching starts tomorrow. I will be ok, I will be ok, I will be ok.
