Camping

So Ed and I went camping this weekend with some good friends of ours who have two little boys. We went up north to Buckhorn State Park. Thursday we drove up and got there with plenty of daylight to set up camp and cook dinner. It was in the 50ies and rained on and off while we had dinner. We had a nice fire so we kept toasty warm. The boys (Dave and Julie have two boys, Matt and Nathan, who are 6 and 4) played together amazingly well all weekend long.

It got pretty cold during the evening, down to the 20ies. A bit colder than we had hoped, but that made it more adventurous. Friday we spent most of the day finishing and playing around the campsite. At one point while we were fishing I am pretty sure we saw an eagle. It was far out on the lake but the white tail feathers were pretty easy to see. It swooped and grabbed a fish and headed off before we could get any kind of good picture. We all thought it was one though. It was a really clear and beautiful day which meant it was even colder that night. It also meant that all the stars were visible. It was amazing to see. We could even see the milky way, and stood in the parking lot near our campsite for a long time just looking at the stars. Of course because it was so cold we could only stand there for about 15 minutes before we had to go back to the fire. Around 3am it was below 20, yeah cold!

Saturday we packed up and did more fishing. We took a short hike and learned all about the savanna in Wisconsin. We also saw the Wisconsin desert which was very cool. We left in the evening and got home around 10pm. Man a shower never felt so good :) We had a really great time, even with the cold nights. The boys loved it and we are planning our trip for next summer when we can swim and maybe catch some fish.
